As of 02/05/2021 Bronson has expanded eligibility of employment at Bronson Commons to include Patient Care Assistants (PCA) based upon CMS guidance, and while the national Public Health Emergency is in effect. Bronson Commons is able to hire individuals who have not completed a state-approved CNA training program, if the individual is able to demonstrate competency in skills and techniques necessary to care for resident’s needs. This is a temporary exception that will eventually be lifted by CMS. When this occurs, PCAs will no longer qualify for this role at Bronson Commons. It is highly encouraged that any PCAs hired at Bronson Commons during this temporary exception period pursue CNA certification. Bronson will support and guide PCAs through the process.

Upon expiration of the CMS exception, one of the following would be expected:

If CMS adjusts the requirements for CNA certification testing eligibility, PCAs would be required to obtain CNA certification in order to remain employed at Bronson Commons.

PCAs would be provided a minimum of 30 days to bid on other PCA or Acute Care Assistant (ACA) positions in the Bronson system.

Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually. Maintains all department specific required certifications. When applicable, for applicable states, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry. Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license.
