Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking Per Diem Staff Nurse for the Adullt Diagnostic Treatment Center located in Avenel, NJ.

The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
  • Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients.
  • Maintains current professional skills and continues professional growth to enhance the practice of correctional nursing and the image of the organization.
  • Adhere to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit

Key Roles and Responsibilities: The per diem registered nurse works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. Scheduling Requirements: Minimum of 3 shifts per month 7am-2:30pm. (The per diem RN may leave earlier once their assignment is completed).
