Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Paterson, NJ

This school-based contract position for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) offers a unique opportunity to work one-on-one with a student managing Type 1 diabetes using advanced technology. Your expertise will help ensure a safe, responsive, and caring environment onsite during school hours.

Key Qualifications:

Active LPN or LVN license in New Jersey
Experience managing Type 1 diabetes in pediatric or school settings preferred
Familiarity with managing advanced technology such as Dexcom CGM and Omnipod insulin pumps
Strong attention to detail, especially in recognizing patterns and troubleshooting device readings
Proficient with manual blood glucose testing and responding to discrepancies between symptoms and device readings
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with educational staff and the student’s family

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide continuous 1:1 nursing support during school hours for one student
Monitor and manage the student’s blood glucose levels, utilizing both Dexcom CGM and manual finger-stick testing as needed
Respond rapidly and appropriately if symptoms do not align with device readings
Coordinate with the student’s care team to maintain optimal diabetes management
Document all data accurately and communicate updates to staff and the student’s family
Ensure the safe operation and troubleshooting of all relevant diabetes care equipment
Remain vigilant, empathetic, and proactive throughout each school day
