About the Role

The Director of Nursing supervises the daily clinical operations of the center and manages the nursing staff, operating room, post anesthesia care unit (PACU), and preoperative area and enforces and monitors policies established. The Director of Nursing ensures that policies are maintained and followed by all surgery centers staff in accordance with established Federal &State regulation, and the company’s policies and procedures. 

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to all direct reports. Serve as a role model and coach for service excellence and patient experience. 
  • Assures an environment of teamwork and collaboration by fostering effective positive communications, giving, and receiving feedback, and modeling the behaviors of honesty, integrity, and trust. 
  • Demonstrates excellent professional and clinical skills, utilizing the nursing process to facilitate the direct and indirect care necessary to meet patient needs and improve outcomes. 
  • Gives direct patient care as needed. 
  • Provides oversight and ensure the smooth operation of the center in collaboration with the Administrator. 
  • Oversees the development and implementation of patient care policies and procedures. 
  • Evaluates quality and standards of patient care in conjunction with medical staff, Medical Director, and Administrator. This includes developing protocols and nursing policies & procedures on as needed basis, review all protocols annually and updated as needed. 
  • Assures preoperative assessment procedures are adhered to 100% of the time and are reviewed and approved by the medical staff. 
  • Assures discharge instructions and education are provided to the patients 100% of the time. 
  • Assures adequate supplies, and controlled drugs are available. This can be achieved by timely ordering and stocking of supplies, controlled drugs, and other medication. 
  • Establishes and maintain auditing of controlled substances to account for all medication and usage. 
  • Assists Administrator in preparing the staffing, operating, and capital budgets annually. 
  • Monitors monthly financial reports to ensure the unit remains within established budget. 
  • Ensures that scheduling provides appropriate staff coverage for the unit. 
  • Assures that the workload is utilized appropriately. 
  • Interviews, hires, and supervises/facilitates orientations for all new employees. Promotes ongoing staff development and collaboration with the staff in the competency process. 
  • Promotes a culture of safety and quality. Maintains a safe environment for the patients, families, and staff. Assures that the National Patient Safety Standards are fully met. 
  • Collaborates with the medical staff to ensure the highest level of care for specific patient populations. Collaborates with the nursing staff and director to resolve patient, family, or physician complaints in coordination with service excellence and patient satisfaction standards. 
  • Acts as liaison, communicating between facility staff, and committee activities including performance improvement, risk management, infection control, medical executive committee, ad governing board and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. 
  • Maintains occurrence records, transfers to hospitals, infection control measures and infection control measures. 
  • Document medication errors, transcription, or non-compliance errors, within the companies defined time frames, and Federal & Regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintains professional standards by integration of the American Nurse Association’s Scope & Standards of Practice, assuring that these standards are identified as the measurement criteria for nursing practice at the center. 
  • Secures and renews centers service contracts with identified vendors such as hazardous waste disposal, radiology, and laboratory. 
  • Secures and renews required facility permits and licenses with identified practitioners and agencies such as pharmacy, generator, business license and name. 
  • Develops, implements, and completes mandatory staff in-services, education and contact education requirements that meet the companies, and Federal & State regulations. 
  • Must comply with company, licensing, and accreditation requirements. 
  • Adheres to established leadership competencies, service standards and reinforces excellence in those standards with subordinates. 
  • Maintains professional relationship with Physicians, patients, direct reports, and co-workers. 
  • Properly reports occurrences, and deaths to Federal and State regulatory agencies within defined time frames by the company and Federal and State requirements. 
  • Assures facility is maintained in safe condition. Conducts facility safety walks and report any repairs needed, faulty equipment, regular maintenance needs, to the appointed Safety Officer. Report facility safety and risk finding to performance improvement committee quarterly. 
  • Ensures maintenance and confidentiality of Medical Staff credentialing files. Maintains and update medical staff credentialing information or delegates as appropriate.
  •  Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
  • Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
  • Approve timecards, schedules, time-off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
  • Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred. 
  • Current and valid registered nurse license required. 
  • CPR certification required. 
  • At least 5 years’ total clinical experience; with two years in nursing administration/OR management; computer skills. 
  • Experience in outpatient healthcare operations or similar service environments preferred.
