Responsibilities:

Assisting patients with activities designed to maintain personal hygiene such as bathing, grooming, and skin care.
Assisting patients with ambulation, transfers, and turns.
Ensuring a clean and orderly patient environment to promote safety and infection prevention.
Notifying clinical staff of any changes in a patient’s condition or safety concerns.
Applying infection control concepts and techniques.
Monitoring, recording, and effectively communicating the patient’s condition, activities, behaviors, and safety concerns utilizing computerized documentation systems and other means as appropriate.
Taking vital signs and performing phlebotomy (blood draws) and glucose checks.

How you make a difference The Certified Nursing Assistant performs basic and specialized nursing care functions under the supervision of licensed nurses. They adhere to local and regulatory policies and procedures to ensure proper patient care. The Nursing Assistant collaborates with other healthcare team members and correctional officers to plan and implement patient care activities in a correctional setting. After a general orientation to medical-surgical and psychiatric patient care areas, they may also float between units to ensure adequate nursing staff for patient care areas. Create & maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. Assist in preparing activity rooms/areas for scheduled activity programs. Recommend to your supervisor the equipment and supply needs of the activity department. Assist in cleaning up activity areas after completing activity functions. Follow the care plan in providing daily activities for resident. Purchase department supplies, clothing and personal items for the residents.
