DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant:
1. Perform full spectrum of sleep medicine care including history collection, evaluation of patient, relevant physical assessment, diagnosis of sleep conditions, plan of care, full management of therapy.
2. For sleep apnea, review and educate patient on results of home and in-lab diagnostic and titration studies.
3. Order or recommend appropriate therapy/equipment. Make appropriate referrals.
4. Evaluate data on PAP download and make adjustments to therapy as needed and evaluate response to intervention
5. Prescribe and evaluate response to medications relating to night sleep and daytime alertness.
6. Document all aspects of care provided.
7. Supervise and delegate tasks to staff members as indicated
8. Precept midlevel students as requested.
9. Maintain accurate count of all controlled substances within the office.
10. Manage the patient’s care in a timely manner and maintain a level of productivity that is equivalent to the other providers on staff.

Education/Certification: Maintain current Idaho licensure, Federal DEA and IBOP certifications. Complete adequate CME as required by licensure. Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Experience: At least two years of experience working independently in a primary care, urgent care, or emergency care setting evaluating and treating a broad range of patients, in terms of age (infants to elderly), medically compliant (infectious disease, cardiac, orthopedic, etc.) and acuity level (routine, urgent and emergent).

Equipment/Technology:  Routine physical assessment tools

Language/Communication:  Communicate well with staff, patients, family members, and consultants. Second language fluency is an asset.

Mathematical Skills:  Basic math skills necessary to calculate medication dosages, etc.

Mental Capabilities:  High level of diagnostic thinking, often rapid. Must be able to perform multi-tasking with frequent interruptions. Must be capable of on-the-spot problem-solving. Strong knowledge of up-to-date clinical information. Must be flexible.

Interpersonal:  Ability to inspire staff to tackle challenging work. Ability to recognize, understand and address the needs of patients and family members on multiple levels. Ability to communicate well and inspire trust when encountering individuals of all cultures, levels of education and walks of life. Ability to project a feeling of caring and concern to others.

Performance:   Must be able to work efficiently and comply with daily demands. Works well under pressure and able to meet multiple and competing deadlines. Able to work as part of a team of clinical providers who share responsibility for the patients’ well-being and the clinics’ operations. Understands the requirements of being a department of a hospital and complies with that level of quality .

To be considered for the role, please apply at the following link: Position Details - Academic Personnel & Faculty The Department of Urology has an outstanding opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP - ARNP/PA-C) to fill a full-time, 12 month, academic position at the Teaching Associate level. The anticipated start date for the position is as early as Summer 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position will be: $10,000 - $14,500 per month ($120,000 - $174,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The ARNP/PA is an integrated role which includes clinical, education and research components. This individual will be a member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians to actively participate in the care of patients undergoing treatment and prevention, primarily at the Kidney Stone Center (KSC) at UWMC-Northwest Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Urology services, with a focus on Endourology. They will work independently and in concert with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient’s medical, physical and psychosocial status in the inpatient and outpatient settings. There will be an opportunity to interact and work with Residents and Fellows of these disciplines. Patient care duties Provide advanced practice care within scope of practice for Urology inpatients and outpatients. Order, initiate and perform testing appropriate to presenting complaints. Perform comprehensive physical exams including focused Urology exam as appropriate. Identify diagnoses based on history, test result interpretation and assessment. Prescribe and/or institute treatment plans based on assessments and diagnostic tests. Prescribe medications as needed. Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust treatments accordingly. Initiate consultation with Attending MD and Chief Resident as appropriate. Admit patients to inpatient status as indicated. Discharge patients to home as indicated. Perform effectively during emergency situations, using sound judgment and following established protocol. Document assessment, findings, interventions, and outcomes as appropriate in patient medical record. Teach patient and family as needed to manage or improve health status. Coordinate/collaborate with other disciplines, health care providers, referring providers, health plans, etc., to meet patient needs. Provide referrals to other health care providers as needed, e.g., medical specialty, social work, physical therapy, etc. Lead or participate in team conferences as needed. Complete appropriate billing and charge documents. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to needs of clinic schedule and patient needs. Conduct appropriate handoff to house staff for patients requiring admission Perform minor surgical procedures, such as suturing lacerations and incision and drainage of abscesses, including administration of local anesthesia, or perform other specialty procedures within scope of practice. Qualifications Current and valid state Registered Nurse Licensure or Licensure as a PA in Washington State Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or graduate of an accredited PA program.
