The GI Nurse specializes in providing care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, including preparing them for the procedure, assisting the physician during the procedure by handing instruments, maintaining a sterile environment, and adhering to infection control protocols.

  • Days: 6:45am – 5:15pm (four shifts per week)
  • On-call rotation (including weeknights, weekends, and holidays)

  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

RNFA works alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care. Works as a professional colleague with the perioperative team and collaborates with the patient-designated support person, and other health care providers when making decisions to plan care. Responsibilities Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member. Pre-operatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure. Analyzes the assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis.
