What the Patient Care Associate does:

Reviews the patient health history for completeness and records findings. Alerts APC regarding critical information about the patient chief complaint, history of present illness, and other patient information.
Documents competently in the electronic medical record using the correct PPGNY templates and forms.
Assists in promoting optimum center operations, excellent patient service and compliance with both agency and funding source policies and regulations.
Adheres to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
Assess flow of patients through health center to minimize patient wait times.
Assists in the orientation and training of new clinic staff, as indicated
Ensures charge capture and financial reporting by accurately documenting in EHR and completing CVR data as appropriate for all medical and counseling services provided.
Ensures access to interpreter services for patients with communication barriers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Provides health education and care related to sexual and reproductive healthcare
Provide accurate patient centered, non-judgmental, education according to MS&G and signs informed consent related to visit.
Performs laboratory tests as ordered, completes laboratory requisitions, and packages labs for transport according to PPGNY lab procedures. Runs Daily Controls.
Performs clinic opening and closing duties; clinic and equipment cleaning; re-stocking supplies, etc. Reports facility and equipment issues, as indicated
Follows all lab and quality assurance protocols; uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control precautions
Assists in abortion service in a variety of functions as needed, including abortion counseling, Products of Conception (POC) room, float and assisting in surgical room.
Attends monthly didactics and incorporates information into daily care provision.
Maintains clinical skills and competencies as required by PPGNY, PPFA, and NYS DOH. Participates in annual competency checks and training for all new services, tests, and skills as assigned.
Maintains up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED
Medical Assistant certification from an accredited school or program
Minimum 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant
You have a certification in Phlebotomy

Patient Care Associate: Preop & Ambulatory Surgery - 36hrs/week - DAYS

Department/Unit: Ambulatory Surgery Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $41,923.00 - $54,500.00 NO WEEKENDS! Three 12-hour shifts per week. The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse. During the assigned work period, PCAs will collect patient data, complete personal care of the patient, perform point of care testing such as whole blood glucose, turn & position and/or mobilize patients, and assist with caring for the needs of assigned patients with a focus on progress toward discharge, including during transitions within the acute care stay. The Patient Care Assistant promotes the availability of resources for patient care through collaboration with Materiel’s Coordinators for use, stocking, and storage of supplies. The Patient Care Assistant participates in the creation and maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care. PCAs may also be asked to provide the service of activity companion for patients requiring 1:1 observations. The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care provided by the caregiving team. S/he assures that competent, compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to customers. Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient’s health or situation, including vital signs, height and weight, and food and fluid intake and output. Reports abnormal findings to the RN and patient care team. Participates in care planning and the nursing report process. Incorporates patient/family rights to participate in decision making about their care Utilizes standardized techniques for keeping patients and families informed. Provides personal care to patients including bathing, oral care, and skin care Assists the patient with eating and hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting. Incorporates safe patient handling into basic restorative care such as ambulation, range of motion and use of assistive and prosthetic devices. Employs strategies to promote a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Demonstrates standard and transmission, based precautions and infection control techniques. Provides details related to patient progress toward the achievement of goals and outcomes to the RN. Documents all care in the patient record. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Basic knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. 6 months related experience in a health care setting or completion of certified nurse assistant course and/or experience as a paramedic, emergency technician is desired Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the tenets of the profession. Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
