Summary: The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting in examination and treatment of patients under direction of the Physician. Major Responsibilities  Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts.  Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.  Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.  Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.  Cleans and sterilizes instruments.  Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.  Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.  Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.  Assist doctors with charting  Chart auditing, CPT and ICD-9 review  Venipunctures, EKG's, Vital Signs, Blood draws, and Injections  Prep patients for examination and treatment, and assist during minor office procedures  Prepare exam and treatment rooms (instrument preparation and sterilization, prescription refills, faxing, and filing) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications  Medical Assistant experience  CPT I certification  Experience performing EKGs, blood draws, vital signs and IM injections.  Ability to work well under pressure and be quick on your feet  Neat and professional appearance  Effective written and verbal communication skills  Vocational certificate in Medical Assistant Working Conditions Center-Based. Requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. The ability to stand and sit for hours at a time, (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs.

Core Competencies Greets and directs patients; notifies appropriate person (RN, Physician) of patient’s arrival and/or escorts patient to appropriate area. Manages patient care flow. Receives and addresses in-coming telephone calls; accurately records and routes messages as indicated. Prepares and cleans treatment rooms before and after each patient. Utilizes computer systems to obtain test results. Orders and restocks clinical supplies including linen, dressings and instruments. Maintains office equipment and initiates maintenance and repairs as necessary. Performs and documents manufacturer’s recommended Preventative Maintenance procedures on testing instruments; monitors calibration dates as needed. Schedules patient appointments. Completes appropriate forms as required by the department. Prepares patients for physician by interviewing patients regarding health problem and reviewing current medications.
