We are seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic neurology team in an outpatient role. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centered care with a primary emphasis on interventional treatments for chronic migraine and neuropathic pain. This position offers an excellent opportunity to practice at the top of your scope in a collaborative, subspecialty environment alongside board-certified neurologists.
Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Management
- Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments, including complete history, physical and neurological examinations, and functional evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic migraine, headache disorders, and small fiber neuropathy.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies including nerve conduction studies (NCS), lab panels, neuroimaging, and autonomic testing.
- Manage pharmacologic therapies, including CGRP antagonists, neuromodulators, anti-seizure medications and pain management regimens.
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment expectations, procedure aftercare, and self-management strategies.
Procedural Duties
- Administer OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®) injections per PREEMPT protocol for the prophylactic treatment of chronic migraine, including comprehensive site mapping across the head, neck, and shoulder regions.
- Perform occipital nerve blocks (greater and lesser) for acute migraine rescue, chronic migraine management, and occipital neuralgia, utilizing anesthetic and/or corticosteroid agents.
- Conduct skin punch biopsies (3 mm) for intraepidermal nerve fiber density (IENFD) analysis to evaluate and diagnose small fiber neuropathy (SFN) & Parkinson's Disease, following standardized protocols for specimen processing and submission to neuropathology.
Collaboration & Administrative
- Collaborate closely with supervising neurologists, physical therapists, pain specialists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Accurately document all clinical encounters, procedures performed, and patient communications in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing medical education activities.
Requirements
Required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
Must be the graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner school with board certification or eligibility.
- License requirements: Current State License- Current, unrestricted APRN licensure and NP certification (FNP, ACNP, or AGNP preferred).
- Active DEA registration and state prescriptive authority
- Must be CPR certified.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in neurology, pain management, or a related specialty.
- Demonstrated competency or willingness to be trained in Botox® injections, nerve blocks, and skin punch biopsy procedures.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage complex neurological conditions independently.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems- EPIC experience preferred.
- Must be computer literate or learn within 6 months, be able to follow written and oral instructions, be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action, be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Preferred
- Prior experience performing OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®) for chronic migraine using the PREEMPT protocol.
- Experience with occipital nerve blocks and/or other peripheral nerve blocks.
- Familiarity with small fiber neuropathy evaluation and skin punch biopsy techniques.
- Knowledge of CGRP monoclonal antibody therapies and other preventive migraine treatments.
- Experience reviewing neurodiagnostic testing reports (EEG, EMG/NCS, autonomic studies).
