PRN Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical Unit
Northwest Florida Community Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical/Surgical team. This position is ideal for a dedicated nurse who enjoys flexibility while delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Position Summary:
The PRN Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on the Medical/Surgical Unit. Working collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care while promoting positive patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.
Schedule:
- PRN (As Needed)
- Shifts available based on departmental needs
- Must meet PRN scheduling requirements, including weekend, holiday, and on-call availability as required
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy.
- Monitor patient conditions, identify changes, and promptly communicate significant findings to providers.
- Provide compassionate nursing care to patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge planning, and disease management.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case management, pharmacy, and ancillary departments to coordinate quality patient care.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and assist with rapid response and code situations as needed.
- Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a patient advocate while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.
- Participate in departmental education, competency validation, and mandatory training.
Qualifications:
- Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or obtained within the required timeframe.
- One (1) year of Medical/Surgical nursing experience preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a 12-hour shift.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and squatting.
- Ability to lift, transfer, reposition, push, and pull patients and equipment with or without reasonable accommodation using safe patient handling techniques.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier lifting as part of a team.
- Manual dexterity to perform nursing procedures and operate medical equipment.
- Visual and auditory ability to assess patients, read medical records, administer medications, and monitor equipment.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
