Sentara is hiring a full-time Night Shift Registered Nurse for the Dedicated Oncology Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.
*Qualified candidates may be eligible for up to a $30,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance*
Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA
Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week
Shift: Nights
Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Weekends: Every other weekend availability required
Holiday Rotation: Required
Oncology 6 RP Unit Overview
The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management.
Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.
Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC®.
Education Requirements
Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
Students currently completing an accredited nursing program are encouraged to apply
Certification/Licensure Requirements
Registered Nurse license required
Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire
Experience Requirements
No prior RN experience required

This unit welcomes both new graduate nurses and experienced nurses transitioning into oncology or intermediate care. Sentara’s 11-week Transition to Practice program supports the orientation experience with focused knowledge development and hands-on skill acquisition for IMC practice. For new graduates, this program begins a comprehensive 6-month residency designed to support a confident transition into professional nursing practice. New graduate nurses are automatically enrolled, with no separate application required.
