The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a 50% Medical Assistant II to work in our Bettendorf Psychiatry Clinic. The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 50% Medical Assistant to work within our Psychiatry Clinic located in Bettendorf, IA. We use a patient-centered care approach—a partnership between you and your team of providers, nurses and therapists—to develop a therapeutic treatment plan that meets your needs. This position will mainly support Psychiatry but could also support other service lines/clinics based on clinical needs/hours.

Duties To Include

Staff will support our Psychiatry Clinic and will float to other clinical areas based on staffing need.
Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
Assist in clinic with patient care.
Record and access patient history, medication records, screenings, and allergies.
Obtain and/or record vital signs.
May administer medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.

Special Qualification/License

Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations. Manages internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments. Administers routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program. Performs routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, does electrocardiograms and x-ray work as needed. Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations. Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments. Assists in obtaining insurance prior authorizations.
