II. Position Qualifications:

Required:
1. Graduation from an accredited graduate program in psychiatric nursing
2. Massachusetts censure as an advanced practice nurse
3. Board certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Association and recognized to practice in an expanded role by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum of three years advanced clinical practice in psychiatric nursing.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.  The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description.  Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA), in the Department of Hospital Medicine is to promote and maintain the health of HM patients across the care continuum throughout the institution supporting the inpatient hospitalist programs. As the Department of Hospital Medicine is a service that operates 24/7/365, nocturnal shifts will also be supported by the hospitalist advanced practice providers for after-hours and weekend coverage, rotating holidays and COVID coverage. The Pain Medicine Department is dedicated to diagnosing and developing the best treatment options for patients with cancer pain. To do this efficiently, care from the cancer pain service starts with a comprehensive assessment, our physicians then create a plan for each patient's needs and condition. Patients are reassessed frequently, allowing physicians to adjust treatment plans as needed. UT MD Anderson has a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider opportunity in its Pain Medicine department. The ideal candidate must have the degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Key Functions Clinical Duties. Functions as a clinical mid-level provider, as licensed, in proportion appropriate for the Cancer Pain Team. Participate in developing treatment plans with the team physicians. Serves as a liaison between patients and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in the collection of patient data with appropriate documentation in patient records. Performs consultation and follow-up requests from other services in managing pain symptoms; preoperative H & P as required on patients scheduled for pain interventions, including review, and ordering of pertinent lab work and tests; and dictates the summary of evaluation and treatment recommendations. Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with cancer pain service guidelines. Provides discharge instructions and arranges patients' follow-up in the clinic. Provides patient education and information on pain procedures, and reinforces formulated plans to treat pain and associated symptoms. Participates in evaluating patient's needs; identifying complex problems affecting patient/family; and implementing policy and/or procedure changes that will improve treatment outcome and patient/family satisfaction. Coverage of Inpatient & Outpatient services as needed. May provide coverage in the outpatient center for Intrathecal pump refills. Work rotation weekends on inpatient service.
