MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Biddeford//Sanford, is seeking anAdvance Practice Provider (APP - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate)to join our Occupational Health Group. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides medical care to the patients within the scope of privileges for which the certified practitioner is educationally and clinically prepared and granted by the state of Maine licensing board and according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and the OH clinics under the general direction of the Director of Occupational Health. The certified practitioner will maintain prescriptive authority and comply with licensure requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients referred to the Occupational Health clinics according to scope of practice and delegated activities as outline by the supervising physician and/or in accordance with regulations.
  • Assumes responsibility for the administrative requirements of the defined patient caseload commensurate with hospital, department regulatory requirements.
  • Participates as a team member in meeting the goals and mission of the clients, patients, and clinics.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with the medical director and physician staff to assure continuity of care and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrates competence in all PA care procedures within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates competence in the management of workplace exposures as determined by physician review processes.
  • Demonstrates competence in identifying clinical care procedures and appropriate to the presenting signs and symptoms, as determined by physician review processes and procedures.
  • Provides effective teaching for patients with regard to course of treatment and work limitations and preventive solutions that is appropriate to patient’s level of understanding.
  • Serves as a resource in promoting and educating clinical staff to trends in OH client care.
  • Strives to become familiar with the physical requirements, the environment and the potential risks of the work done by our client companies.
  • Performs all procedures according to established organization and departmental policies.
  • Actively participates in and adapts clinical care activities in accordance with research and CQI initiatives/data.
  • Assumes responsibility for the administrative requirements of the defined patient caseload commensurate with hospital, OH clinic and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Education: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate program with a Master’s Degree level of education is preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Current license issued by the State of Maine as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate. Current certification as NP or PA required. BLS certification is required.
  • Candidates must successfully obtain DOT Medical Examiner Certification within 90 days of their hire date.
  • Experience: Three or more years of experience in an occupational health setting preferred. No new grads at this time.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
