Job Description

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the department of nursing, and in collaboration with the physician staff, the Clinical Nurse performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for patients. They consistently project a professional and courteous demeanor in line with UCSF’s PRIDE standards. The Clinical Nurse shall comply with the Medical Center Communication Standards. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe therapeutic care.

Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of two (2) years recent clinical inpatient hemodialysis experience
The motivation to become a participant on a team dedicated to effective, safe patient care.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families
Provide on-call coverage to meet clinical needs of the medical center as scheduled in a fairly distributed manner.
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations including Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Parnassus, St. Mary’s and St. Francis Hospitals.

Preferred Qualifications

Hemodialysis and apheresis experience
Specialty certification in nephrology or apheresis (CDN, CNN, CNN-NP, QIA)
General computer literacy and basic familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Epic EMR

Licenses/Certifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of CA
Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
Current American Heart Association PALS or ACLS Certification (career staff)
Telemetry certification or successful completion of an exam in interpreting cardiac rhythms upon hire

Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Nursery (BCH-Mission Bay)

Department Description The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), founded in 1964, is a regional tertiary center and has the proud distinction of being one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. In addition to caring for extremely premature infants, the ICN also cares for infants with congenital anomalies in need of evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN opened the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns in 2008. Today, the ICN continues to enjoy a reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in the fields of neonatology and fetal treatment. Neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists and nurses work to improve neuro developmental outcomes in very premature infants and full-term babies who are at high risk of neurological injury or have clinical evidence of encephalopathy, seizures or stroke. The ICN provides state of the art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and skeletal, cardiac and respiratory diseases. We are one of a few centers in Northern California that provides ECMO and are recognized as an ECMO Center of Excellence. Staff nurses are the backbone of the ICN. They provide comprehensive, compassionate and highly specialized care to the most fragile of infants and their families. Registered Nurse - Adult Internal Medicine

Department Description The Adult Internal Medicine Unit cares for medicine patients ranging from young adults to the elderly presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses. Patients found on this unit are often admitted for acute exacerbations of complex chronic conditions with a focus on pulmonary, gastrointestinal, sickle cell, renal failure, medical-psychological, and endocrine conditions. In addition, patients are admitted for diagnostic work-up and treatment of new-onset infectious disease processes. Continuous video camera monitoring and cardiac telemetry are also available, if needed, to provide comprehensive, safe patient care. Collaboration between our physician colleagues (teaching services and attending services) and multidisciplinary teams contributes to the high functioning teamwork found on this unit. The unit is also supported by the Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), ACE RN Program Coordinator, Medical/Surgical CNS/Educators and an Oncology CNS. This cohesive team approach allows our nurses to provide a high standard of innovative care to patients. Nursing based research that enhances nursing or improves patient care and safety is actively supported here. In addition, a nursing clinical leadership structure is provided to support and mentor nurses of all levels of experience.
