Essential Responsibilities

1.       Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.

2.       Practices in alignment with the state regulations, American Nurses Association (ANA) scope and standards of practice, ANA Code of Ethics, and hospital policies, collaborating with clinical staff, leaders, physicians and specialists as needed to guide and comprehensive patient care across the continuum.

3.       Utilizes and demonstrates the Nursing Professional Development essential responsibilities as defined and outlined in the Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice, when assessing, implementing and evaluating all professional development activities including but not limited to:

  • Coordinates orientation program for new hires and transfers 
  • Develops/coordinates education plans associated with competency validation
  • Develops/coordinates education to address populations served 
  • Develops/coordinates education to facilitate the development of the clinical and nursing staff
  • Assesses, plans, implements and maintains materials for educational programs and makes changes as needed to keep material accurate, relevant and current for target audience
  • Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs
  • Incorporates the principles of adult learning in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs
  • Teaches effectively and uses dynamic and unique approaches to engage target audience. 
  • Coordinates and provides courses and classes that promote staff development and competence
  • Utilizes feedback from physicians, directors, nursing and clinical staff and other disciplines to develop education plans for areas assigned

4. Ensures educational, training and professional development programs are in alignment with the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of the organization and practice area. 

5. Supports nursing research and evidence-based practice integrating best practices and clinical guidelines to ensure optimal patient care utilizing the Relationship-Based Care Model.

6. Supports Professional Governance model through participation in governance initiatives and role modeling professional nursing practice behaviors.

7. Ensures meticulous clinical information systems comprehensive documentation training and compliance of all patient encounters, assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with organizational policies to maintain regulatory compliance and continuity of care. 

8. Serves as content expert and super user for electronic applications for areas served.

9. Assists and supports system implementations and the roll out of new applications and system enhancements.

10. Actively participates in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, contributing to organizational efforts to enhance patient safety, care efficiency, and clinical outcomes. 

11. Demonstrates responsible utilization of healthcare resources, aligning clinical practice with institutional budgetary goals while maintaining high-quality care standards.

12. Promotes professional development with career pathway development for clinical staff. 

13. Responds to changes in nursing and medical practice and develops programs to support them.

14. Takes responsibility for ensuring that the standard work is adopted and cascaded throughout all areas within clinical areas. 

15. Actively participates in and/or effectively leads various committees and workgroups as needed and assigned to improve nursing practice, organizational performance and optimal patient and population outcomes.

16. Builds relationships with educational institutions and clinical practices to coordinate and mentor clinical staff for delivery of high quality student placement activities for all clinical roles in ambulatory care.  

17. Participates in on site regulatory surveys and development of corrective action plans as needed.

18. Assists with recruitment and retention of nursing and clinical staff. Facilitates programs based on organizational needs in relation to recruitment.
