Medical Assistant III- Multispecialty - Greenlawn, NY - Full time Day- Offsite

Description

The Medical Assistant III provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Focus of tasks include basic rooming of patient, EKGs, Point of Care Testing and documentation in EPIC. In addition to the MA II skills, the MA III will be responsible to train staff, follow quality assurance guidelines, staff leadership and/or significant experience/skills in a particular specialty such as endoscopy, etc. The MA III should have at least 3+ years experience in a specialized area such as phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery or cardiology.


Responsibilities

1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information. During endoscopies and colonoscopies, Medical Assistant directly assists physician with duties such as, biopsies, snare manipulation, and patient positioning.

2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completing forms and requisitions as needed, managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.

3. Enters orders into the electronic medical record EPIC system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician.

4. Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.

5. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies. Additional duties include the maintenance, cleaning, processing, and storage of scopes for endoscopes and colonoscopes.

6. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy.

7. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations.

8. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.

9. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts.

10. May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties.

11. May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information.

12. May check and verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources. May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.

13. Provides training and mentoring to less experienced Medical Assistant staff.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course. Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • 3+ years experience as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist, with experience in a specialized area
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school
  • BCLS certification Required Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $26.8018 - $36.6767 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
