C.N.A. - RECOVERY ROOM - FT DAYS (61889)

Job Summary:  Performs basic duties of patient care to adult and geriatric populations, under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. CNAs who have successfully validated competencies will also provide care to pediatric and adolescent populations.  Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean environment. Performance expectations are defined in the competency evaluation.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Acts in accordance with hospital policies and Code of Excellence and Code of Conduct.
  2. Demonstrates flexibility to meet department, organization, and patient/family needs.
  3. Supports the patients’ rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.
  4. Provides age appropriate and population specific care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
  5. Maintains a healthy work environment to enhance retention and recruitment.  Assists with the orientation of new employees.
  6. Self-manages time and responsibilities.
  7. Orders lab work accurately.  Performs venipuncture accurately and appropriately.
  8. Maintains competency with the use of the computer system for ordering purposes.
  9. Transports patients safely using appropriate body mechanics. Assist patients with mobility problems appropriately. Obtains safe handling equipment as needed.
  10. Obtains vital signs accurately and reports findings to registered nurse.
  11. Applies Ted hose/SCD, cardiac leads and oximeter appropriately.
  12. Uses blood glucose meter, EKG machine and other medical equipment appropriately.
  13. Provides ongoing communication and clarifies unclear assignments or directions with the registered nurse 
  14. Disconnects and sets-up humidified O2 and suction in the recovery room.
  15. Provides refreshments to post-op patients.
  16. Performs pre-operative hair removal as directed.
  17. Stocks the department for supplies and dietary needs. Stocks blanket warmer.
  18. Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain safe, clean environment.
  19. Adheres to standard precautions of infection control standards.
  20. Monitors patient refrigerator temperature and reports any problems

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

                Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent

                Certification/Licensure: Successful completion of approved Nurse Assistant course with certification

                                                     by the State of Illinois

                                                     BLS certification required within 30 days of hire

                Experience Requirements:  Prior medical-surgical care experience preferred, but not mandatory.
