Neuro Pre- and Post-Operating Room (Neuro Perioperative Services) is a newly established department designed to provide exceptional care for adult patients before and after neurological procedures. Combining Pre-Operative and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) services, this innovative team creates a seamless patient experience throughout the surgical journey while offering caregivers the opportunity to help shape the future of the department.
With a highly engaged leadership team, shared governance model and strong focus on professional growth, caregivers have the opportunity to make an immediate impact, contribute ideas and help establish best practices within a growing specialty area. Nurses in this department play a critical role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while supporting patients and families during some of their most important moments.
As part of the Neuro Perioperative team, nurses care for a diverse neurological patient population with varying levels of acuity—from same-day surgical patients to those requiring inpatient recovery or transfer directly to the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Team members receive specialized education and support to develop advanced skills needed to care for high-acuity neurological patients. Pediatric neurology patients are also supported within the department, with dedicated pediatric caregivers providing specialized care.

- Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative experience.
- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Assess, document and communicate patient conditions and responses to care.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Carry out physician and nursing orders while ensuring safe, evidence-based care.
- Assess and coordinate discharge needs.
- Educate patients and families to support recovery and overall well-being.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
- For critical care areas, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire or within the first year of employment.
New graduate RN OR one year of current acute care RN experience or military RN experience.
