Position Overview:

The Nurse Scheduler generates, manages and updates master schedules while making adjustments as needed according to budgetary constraints, census fluctuations, call-ins, and pre-planned leaves of absence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfilling staffing vacancies in advance to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts

  • Recommends new approaches and effective scheduling practices for continual improvements and

efficiency in staffing.

  • Advises and communicates with Executive Director and Director of Nursing of staffing, scheduling needs and/or shortages identified during assessment of nursing schedules.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Director of Nursing Services, Executive Director and Human Resources when it has been identified there is a potential leave or assistance situation with a Care Team Member.

  • Handles various inquiries from Care Team Members regarding scheduling and provides solutions where needed.

  • Validates PTO availability with Human Resources prior to approval.

  • Keeping meticulous attendance records and assisting communicating if staff members accrue excessive absences and/or tardies.

  • Communicate with Unit Managers and the Director of Nursing Services regarding floor orientation schedules for newly hired Care Team Members in the nursing department.

  • Checking time clock punch records daily against master schedules and noting the appropriate changes.

  • Signing time correction forms for events such as missing meal periods or forgetting to clock in/out.

  • Utilizing computer software to prepare, change and update the master schedule.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including but not limited to; weekend and holiday rotation and work the on-call schedule rotation.

  • This position may require the occasional need to work the floor if a license is held for positions such as a QMA or CNA.

Qualifications:

  • Previous scheduling experience in a long-term care setting preferred.

  • Active QMA and/or CNA license in good standing required.
