- Applying the nursing process through Relationship-Based Care
- Creating personalized care plans with patients and families
- Communicating effectively with care teams
- Identifying and addressing clinical and psychosocial needs
- Leading or participating in quality improvement initiatives
- Mentoring new nurses and students
- Engaging in shared governance and professional development
- Promoting a healthy, inclusive workplace culture
This position requires rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage in the Emergency Department.
Education & Experience:
- BSN preferred; Master’s in Nursing or related field may substitute for certification requirement.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Must receive and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations.
- Completion of 2 professional contributions annually (or 1 contribution with certification), aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by Unit Director per UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process.
- Effective communication and relationship-building with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
- Demonstrates cultural awareness and contributes to a healthy workplace.
Required:
- Current RN license in Pennsylvania or a compact state.
- CPR (BLS) certification per AHA standards (didactic + skills demo) within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS, PALS, and NIMS certifications within 6 months of hire.
- UPMC-approved nursing certification (not required if Master’s or DNP is held).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) – Introduction & Incident Command
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
