Medical Assistant - Orthopedic Clinic- Full-Time

The Receptionist will welcome and greet patients and their families when they enter our facility. The Receptionist will obtain reason and check the patient in/out through the Electronic Health Record system. Receptionist will also answer calls and relays messages to necessary parties. Also responsible for handling incoming referrals and orders, scheduling, reminders for patients, collection of patient charges and follow-up. 

Primary Responsibilities

    • Performs various administrative and clinical duties under direction of administration and/or clinician.
    • Assist patients as necessary with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting specimens and preparing for exams.
    • Utilizes electronic health records system to collect pertinent patient history consistent with organizational guidelines. 
    • Takes vitals, electrocardiograms, stress tests, ETTs, Event/Holter Monitor
    • Performs screening consistent with provider guidelines.
    • Prepares and administers medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections as directed by the provider.
    • Transmits prescription refills as directed
    • Communicates appropriately and clearly with patients, co-workers, and management. 
    • Prepare charts for providers to include obtaining results of studies such as labs, imaging, etc. prior to visit
    • Assists in completion of forms in preparation of provider review and signature
    • Schedule appointments/procedures and answers calls/message in a timely basis
    • Arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services as needed
    • Monthly/Weekly/Annual inspection and testing of equipment used in clinic.
    • Able to recognize and is knowledgeable of heart rhythms on EKG and rhythm strips.
    • Maintains effective communication with the patient and provides an explanation of procedures within the scope of practice. 
    • Ensures physician order for the procedure is entered accurately. Consults appropriate resources to clarify orders and deemed necessary. 
    • Attend staff meetings as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Required:  High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Required: 1 year of experience as a receptionist. 
  • Preferred:  1 year of experience in a health care environment
  • Required:  Meet all Employee Health Requirement

License/Certification(s)

  • Required: BLS 
  • Preferred: ACLS 
  • Preferred: Certificate of successful completion of Medical Assistant Program 
  • Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant
  • Preferred: CCT (Cardiac Care Technician) Certification
