Companionship Caregiver
Purpose
The Companion Caregiver provides non-medical support and companionship to clients who wish to remain safe, independent, and engaged while living in the comfort of their own home. The primary focus of this role is enhancing quality of life through meaningful interaction, supervision, and assistance with everyday household activities.
Companion Care Services
Companion Caregivers may provide the following services:
Companionship
Engage clients in friendly conversation and meaningful social interaction.
Provide emotional support and encouragement.
Participate in hobbies, games, crafts, reading, puzzles, or other enjoyable activities.
Accompany clients on walks and recreational outings.
Encourage participation in social, community, and faith-based activities.
Meal Preparation
Plan and prepare light meals and snacks.
Encourage proper nutrition and hydration.
Assist with meal setup and cleanup.
Light Housekeeping
Wash dishes and clean the kitchen after meal preparation.
Dust, vacuum, sweep, and mop living areas.
Change bed linens.
Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry.
Organize and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
Take out household trash.
Transportation & Errands
When approved by the agency:
Drive clients to medical appointments.
Provide transportation to shopping, church, social events, and personal appointments.
Grocery shop and complete household errands.
Pick up prescriptions and other essential items (excluding controlled substances unless specifically authorized).
Safety & Wellness
Provide medication reminders only (no medication administration).
Observe and report changes in the client's physical, emotional, or environmental condition.
Help reduce fall risks by maintaining a safe environment.
Encourage independence while providing appropriate supervision.
Documentation
Accurately document services provided.
Report concerns, incidents, or changes in condition to the office promptly.
Follow all SYNERGY HomeCare policies, HIPAA regulations, infection prevention
practices, and safety standards.
Companion Care Limitations
Companion Caregivers do not provide hands-on personal care or skilled nursing services. This includes, but is not limited to:
Bathing or showering assistance
Dressing assistance
Toileting or incontinence care
Transferring or lifting clients
Medication administration
Wound care
Catheter care
Vital signs
Skilled nursing procedures
Any task requiring a licensed healthcare professional
Clients requiring these services should be assigned to a Personal Care Attendant (PCA), Specialized Caregiver, or Licensed Nurse, as appropriate.
Reliable transportation is required.
