JOB SUMMARY: Provides residents with daily nursing care in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policies and as may be directed by the Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing or Administrator to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. QUALIFICATIONS Successful completion of a nursing arts course in an accredited nurse training program as evidenced by a diploma, certificate, or other written verification from the school and successful completion of the Department approved nursing assistant competency evaluation or successful completion of a United States military training program that includes the content of the Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program Be at least 16 years of age, of temperate habits and good moral character, honest, reliable, and trustworthy. Provide evidence of employment or occupation, if any, and residence for two years prior to initial employment as a nursing assistant. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Reports all hazardous equipment and conditions to the Staff Nurse immediately. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps patients/residents with comprehensive and personalized health care needs under the supervision of a nurse. The CNA assists patients/residents with activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, toileting and exercising. At this facility, this position is collectively bargained under the union. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director of Nursing or CNA Supervisor, the CNAs work closely with the nursing staff to ensure coordination of patient care. Provides physical support for patients/resident’s daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring to/from bed, toileting, walking, standing, or exercising. Assists patients with daily medication and supplements. Ensures proper resident/patient diet based on their dietary restrictions. Examines patients for open wounds, bruises, or blood in urine. Notes and communicates patient/resident behavior and changes in mood. Cleans rooms and bed linens. Checks and records vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Answers to patient calls and needs.
