The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) will perform primary nursing functions of assessing, planning, directing, performing, and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Room to patients of all ages suffering from various types of illness or trauma that requires emergency attention. The ED RN will serve as a professional role model by encouraging teamwork and collaborating with clinical and front office staff, administration, and other professional disciplines to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and optimal patient outcomes with the highest level of patient satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrates ability to manage care within the established standards of nursing care and practice as defined by the state of Indiana and required by hospital accrediting bodies.

  • Initiates care to stabilize patient and assists in managing life support needs by collaborating with Physicians and Clinical staff, demonstrating appropriate admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.

  • Provides high quality and high satisfaction bedside care and administers treatments under the direct supervision of the Physician, anticipating patient needs and responding accordingly.

  • Accurately and concisely documents services provided within the medical record in a thorough, timely manner.

  • Collects laboratory samples and performs lab testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates ability to perform laboratory Quality Controls and Assessments, and routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function according to Laboratory policy and procedures.

  • Participates in QAPI activities including participation in accreditation preparation and survey process and maintenance of accreditation, state, and CMS standards.

  • Attends and participates in all applicable facility meetings, training, and development workshops, and reviews/understands all required policies and procedures.

  • Ensures proper supplies, appropriate medical equipment and medications are available for patient care and par levels meet patient and facility needs.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse, in good standing, licensed in the state of Indiana.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital Emergency Department.

  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, or ENPC required.

Maximizes team efficiency by utilizing all team members Physician/Provider Engagement – Assists in the creation and maintenance of an operationally efficient and physician/provider friendly work environment. Provides support to the onboarding of new physicians/providers Rounds with physicians/providers daily to review staff issues and to address and resolve operational/clinical concerns. Solicits feedback regarding staff performance. Engages physicians/providers in improving processes, workflow and EMR related concerns. Assists physicians/providers on issues related to patient care and safety. Reviews physician/providers satisfaction results and collaborates with manager/director to execute improvement plans. Miscellaneous – Fulfills additional job-related duties based on operational needs as directed by the manager and/or the director Actively participates in meetings, committees and projects Keeps abreast of current clinical standards via literature, educational events and internal and external resources and networking. Participates in activities to enhance professional growth Maintains licensure and completes required CEUs Performs other duties as assigned.
