Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in delivering specialized care and managing the health needs of patients in either inpatient, ambulatory, or a combination of both settings. With advanced training and expertise, the APP focuses on subspecialized care, including chronic illness and disease management, ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient’s healthcare journey, which may span multiple years. This role involves specialization in a specific organ system, where the APP provides expert consultation within their area of expertise as appropriate. The APP is integral to supporting patients across the continuum of care in both inpatient and outpatient specialty settings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Department Summary:

Learning your child needs surgery or general anesthetic can be distressing for you and them. Our pediatric anesthesia team is here to help. As part of our education for families with children requiring anesthesia, we connect you with our Preoperative Assessment and Teaching for Children’s Hospital (PATCH) clinic.

Our pediatric anesthesia team at this clinic includes more than 20 nurse practitioners who have backgrounds in pediatrics, hematology/oncology and anesthesiology.

A visit to this clinic will prepare you and your child to best cope with surgery. A specialist will explain the surgical process in a way your child will understand, with suggestions to help the procedure go smoothly.

You'll meet with a family nurse practitioner who will learn about your child's and family's health, examine your child and talk with you about the operation and anesthesia. You'll also receive specific instructions to take with you about how to prepare at home. We encourage you to ask questions and share your concerns.

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care (CPNP-PC), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations
Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within a specialty scope of practice.

Organization: PICU Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, delivering expert care in the Critical Care setting. This role involves managing high-acuity intensive care unit (ICU) patients with unstable conditions who require intensive oversight, frequent rounding, and specialized care. Patients may include those in medical and surgical ICUs with complex needs requiring advanced interventions. The APP is responsible for managing complex conditions while ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality care. This role requires advanced medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical proficiency, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. The APP is also accountable for timely and compliant documentation, ongoing professional development, and competency validation. Position Hours: .75 FTE (30 Hours Perk Week) Nights 12 Hour Shifts (Mix of 1700 - 0500 and 1800 - 0500 Shifts) Department Summary: Monroe Carell's state-of-the-art, 42-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is dedicated to the care of critically ill children. Our ICU team includes pediatricians who are board certified in critical care medicine. We work together with nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, case managers, child life specialists, pharmacologists and nutritionists to provide the highest quality care possible for critically ill children around the clock. Your child's safety and the quality of care we provide your family is of utmost priority. We ensure this with regular reviews of our practices, along with continuous improvement efforts. Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care. In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
