Job Description

The Perioperative Nurse in Pre-admission Testing plays a vital role in ensuring patients are well-prepared for their surgical journey. You will be responsible for collecting and analyzing patient data, conducting thorough assessments, and providing essential support to patients and their families. This role is crucial in ensuring a smooth and successful surgical experience, as you will be the key point of contact for patients, physicians, and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

Provide exceptional patient care and family support, ensuring a positive perioperative experience.
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and collect patient data for clinical overview.
Review and analyze patient medical history, surgical history, and current medications.
Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including anesthesiologists and surgeons.
Ensure patients are appropriate candidates for scheduled procedures at AtlantiCare Surgery Center.
Implement and manage individualized perioperative patient care plans.
Complete pre-operative telephone calls, providing instructions and ensuring patient understanding.
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure patient information is up-to-date.
Work collaboratively with the Executive Medical Director for complex patient cases.
Promote a positive and supportive work environment, fostering teamwork and cooperation.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's in nursing preferred.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of New Jersey is mandatory.
1-3 years of medical/surgical experience with strong assessment skills is required.
Previous Ambulatory surgery or PAT experience is preferred.
Critical Care experience is an asset.
Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred, with training provided upon hire.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing schedules.
Good organization and prioritizing skills, with a focus on attention to detail.
Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant software.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

Goals are identified consistent with the problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion. Education is consistent with the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment. The Registered Nurse/Ambulatory assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. Registered Nurse (Ambulatory) Page 2 Qualifications EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred. LICENSE: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi state license required. BLS required. EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years clinical experience including pediatric experience required; demonstrated leadership ability; strong organizational skills preferred. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position includes considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, extensive standing, sitting and walking, the majority of the workday. This position also requires lifting approximately 25-50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally with assistance. Periodic traveling to company off site locations is expected. This position requires heavy mental stress demands and the ability to handle large numbers of interactions with multiple individuals compounded by constant interruptions. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
