What you will do:
Oversees, supports, and makes contributions to patient safety by:
- Providing a safe environment for patients.
- Identifying and correcting root causes of errors.
- Supporting the implementation of systems to prevent errors.
- Subscribing to responsible reporting of adverse occurrences, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Providing evidence-based care.
Ensures the efficient and effective daily operation of the assigned area(s):
- Supporting the implementation of departmental policy, protocols, and procedures
- Assisting the nurse manager in ensuring availability and operation of necessary equipment/supplies for patient care.
- Providing in-staff coverage on the unit per the established weekly schedule, for a minimum of 50% of their established scheduled hours, and additionally based on unit demands.
Ensures the provision of high quality, culturally sensitive care by:
- In collaboration with the nurse manager, providing a safe environment of patients, identifying and correcting root causes of errors, implementing systems to prevent errors, and subscribing to responsible reporting of adverse occurrences, near misses and safety concerns.
- Utilizing evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide practice improvement initiatives.
- In collaboration with nurse manager and staff, establishing unit goals and strategies for goal attainment.
- Ensuring the practice of professional nursing and managing the delivery of and, in collaboration with the nurse manager, assessing plans, implementing the professional practice model, and evaluating the delivery of patient care.
- Supporting the adherence to unit-related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement. Supports and assists in the development of quality improvement initiatives consistent with professional practice standards and regulatory agencies. Assists with attaining and maintaining The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory standards.
- Utilizing the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.
- Participating in systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services to identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders to improve services and patient outcomes.
- Contributing to nursing education and professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
- Ensuring decisions and actions are based on ethical principles and foster a non-discriminatory climate in which care is delivered in a manner sensitive to socio-cultural diversity.
Promotes satisfaction of customers by:
- Assisting in the management of customer feedback according to policy.
- Supporting the nurse manager in maintaining and developing customer service initiatives by using patient satisfaction data results to improve nursing practice.
- Rounding on patients/families on a regular basis. Submitting rounding reports on a scheduled basis to the nurse manager.
- Reinforcing hospital customer service mission to staff.
- Participating in the resolution of patient issues and implementing appropriate operational changes that will promote consumer/patient satisfaction.
Supports recruitment and retention programs by:
- a. Providing ongoing feedback for formal reviews and by creating a climate supporting professional development.
- Interacting with and contributing to the professional development of staff and others in a shared governance model of nursing practice.
- Monitoring and evaluating staff satisfaction and implementing action plans to address staff issues.
Promotes professional certification by:
- Supporting the development and implementation of effective educational programs designed to assist the staff in the progression from novice to expert in the care of the patient and family.
- In collaboration with the nurse manager, providing leadership, direction and guidance to assigned staff.
- Coordinating and maintaining the required training and skills of staff.
Supports effective mechanisms for communicating information with staff by:
- Assisting the nurse manager to establish effective mechanisms for communicating information with staff.
- Collaborating with other departments to create systems and solve ongoing issues impacting departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.
- Ensuring staff competency in caring for a culturally diverse patient population.
Ensures financial administration in conjunction with the nurse manager by:
- Implementing best practices to increase productivity and cost efficiency
- Assisting in developing creative approaches to nursing practice that enhance quality patient care cost effectively.
- Utilizing productivity metrics and performance measures to drive labor utilization, established by nurse manager.
- Supporting development of creative approaches to create, monitor, and administer nurse staffing budget.
- Collaborating with the nurse manager on purchases and inventory levels.
Supports professional development by:
- Assisting in development of performance expectations and providing ongoing feedback for formal reviews.
- Ensuring staff competency in caring for a culturally diverse patient population.
- Collaborating with nurse manager to create a culture of engagement and contribution by facilitating staff involvement in unit-based committees and problem-solving activities.
- Monitoring and evaluating staff satisfaction and implementing action plans to address staff issues.
- Identifying, developing, and retaining new talent.
- Incorporating team building and job sculpting techniques.
- Encouraging active participation in the CARE program and monitoring participants’ performance.
- Supporting and creating a climate that supports professional development by actively seeking opportunities for professional growth.
- Demonstrating a commitment to nursing research, education, legislation and technological advancement by supporting and promoting these endeavors on the unit.
- Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

What You Will Need:
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio.
- Current AHA certification.
- 2 years of experience as a registered nurse.
