JOB SUMMARY:

The Operating Room Scrub assists the surgeon at the sterile field by providing appropriate and adequate sterile instruments and other supplies during the operative procedures. Maintains the surgical field through aseptic practices. Works under the supervision of the Surgery Team Leader as a member of the perioperative team. Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient for surgery and performs routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and policies of the facility and department. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SCRUB TECH Stocks patient rooms and carts/drawers. Commutates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Assists RN’s and LPN’s with patient care activities such as bathing, feeding, walking, changing positions, oral hygiene, newborn screenings, hearing screenings or other tasks requested. Assist RNs and LPN’s with housekeeping duties. Assists Nurse Supervisor and Manager as requested. Documents patient data in appropriate computer/paper system. Vital signs on a stable patient. Emptying drains and foley bags and reporting results to assigned nurse. Keeps accurate intake and output. Retrieves all lab results and prenatal records from computer and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse. Takes specimens to the laboratory.
