Job Description
The Trauma Nurse Specialist provides direct/indirect specialized, comprehensive care, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and collaborative management strategies. Participates in clinical, educational, leadership, consultant, and research activities for trauma patients. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standards of practice. Provides 24/7 support for nursing and targeted patient populations.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and analysis of nursing practice issues related to trauma specialty
Provides consultation, within area of expertise, to health care team regarding complex patient care needs
Provides direct and indirect expert patient/family care in specialty area. for patients of all ages, who have unique or complex needs
Provides highly complex assessment, care planning, care, treatment and discharge/transition planning and placement to specified patients
Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy and goals of Centra
Provides leadership in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to implement outcome-focused patient care needs
Provides leadership for establishing and implementing goals related to nursing practice
Participates in decision-making processes which impact nursing practice at all levels
Provides leadership regarding evidence -based nursing practice and integrates research into establishing patient care standards, guidelines, and protocols
Participates in conduct of/ or implementation of research
Critically analyzes research findings and recommends evidence-based practice changes to improve patient outcomes
Assists/mentors staff to develop and implement evidence-based projects to improve patient outcomes
Interacts frequently with nursing staff, physicians, students and other members of the health care team to coordinate care
Maintains patient, staff and customer confidentiality
Maintains accessibility throughout system and in the community as a resource person
Moderate risk of exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials and combative patients
High risk, stressful environment due to demands on time from multiple sources and need to shift priorities frequently

Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Preferred Education: Masters Degree
Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in specialty. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to think globally and communicate a vision
Required Certifications and Licensures: Current Virginia or Multistate Nursing Registration. Specialty certification. Certification as a Trauma Certified Registered Nurse through BCEN or will obtain within six (6) months of hire
Salary Range: $34.89-$54.08/hourly
