Under the general supervision of the Manager – Co-worker Health, the Co-worker Health Nurse performs daily activities to provide health services to Mercy co-workers. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Summary

The Co-Worker Health Registered Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of employees throughout their employment journey. This position collaborates closely with co-workers, leaders, and regulatory agencies to provide occupational health services, promote workplace wellness, manage employee health programs, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and organizational requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and administer all Co-Worker Health services in compliance with federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Conduct pre-employment health assessments, including medical history reviews, drug testing, laboratory work, immunization verification, and additional screenings as indicated.
  • Manage and administer employee tuberculosis (TB) screening programs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform respirator fit testing and provide required education and training.
  • Coordinate and administer annual influenza and other employee immunization programs, including assessment of vaccine contraindications, education on potential side effects, and documentation.
  • Provide first aid and follow-up care for employees experiencing work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Collaborate with leaders, supervisors, and employees to facilitate return-to-work and restricted-duty programs.
  • Serve as Workers' Compensation Coordinator as assigned, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, injury tracking, case management, and communication with providers, leadership, and third-party partners.
  • Maintain accurate employee health records and ensure strict confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Prepare and present monthly and annual reports to support organizational compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and recommend updates to employee health policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Promote employee wellness and participate in committees related to wellness, safety, infection prevention, and environmental health.
  • Communicate effectively through clear, accurate, and professional verbal and written interactions.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the organization's mission, values, and service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.

Experience

  • Occupational Health, Employee Health, Workers' Compensation, Emergency Nursing, or Case Management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of employee health regulations, immunization programs, and workplace safety practices preferred.

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
