Job Summary:

 

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse in the Duke Orthopaedics Arringdon, located in Morrisville, NC to Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Job Eligibility Requirements:

    • Work requires graduation from an accredited Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
      • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the BSN program within seven years of their start date
        • Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
    • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
    • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

 

Job Schedule:

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.

Maintains accountability of administration, recording, control and security of medications, including narcotics. Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed. Confers regularly with treatment team (e.g., nurses, therapists, program managers, physician) regarding patient care. Attends and participates in the unit activities such as therapy groups, family meetings as appropriate, staffing, unit meetings, etc. Provides education/explanation to patients, families, and co-workers regarding medication usage/maintenance, common side effects, patient's rights, as well as other topics necessary for optimal patient care. Monitors patient acuity, census, staffing needs, and escalates coverage needs to supervisor/Charge RN. Ensures thorough, accurate documentation is completed for all patients on each shift and patient assignment sheets are completed daily and tasks are carried out as assigned. Communicates thorough hand-off reports to oncoming staff and supervisors. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing. One or more years’ nursing experience within clinical area of service provided by facility preferred. Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred. Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures. Ability to apply nursing standards and practice within an acute psychiatric setting LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
