The Medical Assistant provides professional clinical care for patients following established standards and practices. Prepares patients during office visits and assists patients and family members before, during and after a doctor’s visit. 

  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during treatment/procedures, examinations, and testing of patients.
  • Prepare, restock, and sterilize examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area and all other patient care areas per established policies and procedures.
  • Record patients' medical history, health maintenance, and chief complaint.
  • Measure, record, and document vital signs.
  • Where applicable, perform phlebotomy, injections and other specimen collection per established policies and procedures as directed by the provider.
  • Educate patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Sterilize medical instruments per established standards and procedures.
  • Relay messages from patients and front office staff to providers.
  • Represent the office in a professional manner.  Treat all customers, internal and external, in a courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Participate in team activities and professional development activities.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Demonstrate and embody the Women’s Care mission and core values.
  • Compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • (FL Only) Certified Medical Assistant preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within the first 120 days of employment.
    • To be eligible for employment and to obtain an MA certification, you must be a graduate of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR served in the Armed Forces as a Medical Technician with honorable discharge.
  • Current CPR and/or BLS certification preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment via Women’s Care training.
  • Experience working in OBGYN or Primary Care a plus.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections, if applicable.
  • Ability to perform dosage calculations and measurement conversions.
  • Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, personnel of outside organizations, and patients and their family members, both written and verbally.
  • Must possess good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be able to work effectively with all levels of aforementioned groups.
  • Ability to use a computer and enter data in electronic medical records application, preferably eCW.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.

Responsibilities Reports To: Office Manager Position Objective: The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Working under the direction of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or APRN, the Medical Assistant prepares patients for examinations, performs clinical procedures within the scope of practice, assists providers during patient visits, and supports front office operations. This is a safety-sensitive position that involves direct patient care, medication administration, and other clinical responsibilities requiring accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail. The MA plays an active role in supporting Medicare Advantage patients within a value-based care model that prioritizes quality outcomes, and preventive care. Essential Responsibilities: Patient Care: Welcome patients and prepare them for provider examinations by obtaining and documenting patient history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies, medical history, surgical history, family history, social history, preventive care information, and other relevant clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Measure, document, and report vital signs and other clinical observations. Prepare patients and examination rooms for provider visits. Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures. Explain provider instructions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care to patients as directed. Provide compassionate, professional service that promotes a positive patient experience. Clinical Procedures: Administer oral and injectable medications, immunizations, and treatments as directed by the provider and permitted by state regulations. Assist with wound care, dressing changes, bandaging, irrigation of eyes and ears, and other clinical procedures. Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with a heart of compassion and empathy towards our patients and families Exceptional oral and written communication skills, time management skills and organizational skills Ability to effectively collaborate and partner with team members, including physicians and other clinicians, market leaders, center managers, nurses, case managers, front desk staff, center managers, and market leaders Mindset focused on resolving problems for patients and achieving team goals Knowledge of medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies and procedures Skilled in basic phone and computer operation Must be detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of reports and data Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow Ability to act calmly in busy or stressful situations Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist in covering other centers, as needed Spoken and written fluency in English Flexible to work evening, weekends and/or holidays as needed EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA: High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required Graduation from a nationally accredited Program in one of the following is required: Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician Program, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, EMT or Paramedic required BLS for Healthcare Providers required Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus EMR system experience preferred PAY RANGE: $17.0 - $24.26 Hourly The posted pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for this position. Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for a bonuses or commissions.
