The Per Diem RN in Medical Imaging is responsible for providing direct patient care by applying special clinical nursing knowledge and skills related to the Medical Imaging setting. He or she will strive to ensure the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direct patient care for patients undergoing procedures in the imaging suite such as CT, MR, US, Radiography, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Cardi Lab where applicable. 
    • Assist physicians and technologists with patient preparation for procedures
    • Assists during procedures
    • Gather information. Responsible for appropriate labeling, handling, delivering and tracking of specimens from collection to reporting. 
    • Provide health education information. Provide post procedure instructions.
  • AEB: skill demonstration, observation, document audits, attendance at educational inservices     
  • Care of patients: performs technical and supportive patient care skills including, but not limited to:
    • Waived testing
    • Respiratory care
    • Medical emergency response
    • Safe and effective medication administration
    • Prioritization of urgent patient care needs
    • IV skills, venipuncture
    • Catheterization skill
    • EKG monitoring
  • AEB: skill demonstration, observation, attendance at educational inservices and log audits
  • Infection control: Provides environment to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Handwashing
    • Aseptic technique
    • Sterile technique
    • Care, cleaning, and sterilization of instruments as applicable
  • AEB: Adherence to EHS standards
  • Management of Information: Accurately documents and communicates to appropriate care providers. Includes, but is not limited to:

    • Triage and telephone message taking

    • Follows test results reporting policies and procedures to include obtaining, interpreting and communication of results to providers and patients as applicable.
    • Appointment scheduling
  • AEB: chart audits, documentation review and appointment accuracy
  • Environment of Care: Assists with maintenance of equipment, supplies and environment. Including, but not limited to:
    • Orders supplies
    • Maintains equipment to include departmental crash cart according to established clinic guidelines
    • Adheres to Clinic safety standards for employees, patients, and visitors
    • Identifies and reports potential barriers for the safe provision of patient care and maintains a safe patient environment
    • Supports initiatives related to OSHA and accreditation standards
  • AEB: Physical survey of exam rooms. Maintenance of cleaning logs. Survey for non-functional equipment. Observation, skills demonstration. Attends quarterly EHS education
  • Patient Rights and Responsibilities: practices positive guest and peer relations. Supports and respects patient rights. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Advanced Directives
    • Informed consent
    • Complaint resolution

  • Timely license renewal (-1 if not renewed timely)
  • Performance Improvement: participates in organizational improvement. Includes, but is not limited to:
    • Performance Improvement plans
    • Utilization of PDSA model
  • AEB: Identifies and communicates problem prone areas to supervisor. Contributes improvement ideas and audits of logs. May take lead on implementation of solutions, projects or pilots.
  • Participation in PI initiatives
  • Familiar with specifics related to MR, CT, US, radiography, nuclear medicine, cardilab, and needle biopsies Cognizant of radiation hazards and safe practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved RN nursing program
  • Current and valid RN license
  • Current BLS through American Heart Association
  • 3+ years RN experience
  • Competent in the use of equipment and related supplies for selected patient population. CPR, oxygen administration and intravenous therapy. CRT experience
  • Minimum 8 shift per month
  • 4 shifts per year before or after clinic holidays, with 2 shifts related to summer holidays and 2 shifts related to winter holidays
  • Proven excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

     

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • ACLS
  • Specialty nursing certification applicable to medical imaging
  • Experience in a medical imaging setting/center
  • Windows computer experience, RIS experience

     

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
