Job Description

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse Practitioner is a highly skilled clinician who provides expert procedural and clinical care throughout the interventional radiology patient experience, including pre-procedural evaluation, intra-procedural support, and post-procedural management. The AHP practices in close collaboration with the interventional radiology attending physicians and interdisciplinary care team to promote excellent patient care across outpatient and inpatient settings.

This position requires flexibility for the APP to work at all UCSF Health facilities/locations

Qualifications

Minimum License/Certifications:

California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role

Preferred Education/Experience

Experience in interventional radiology, surgery, hospital medicine, critical care, or oncology.
Experience with inpatient consult services.
Experience working in an academic medical center or large integrated health system.

Demonstrated sterile technique and procedural skill.
Prior independent performance of paracentesis and thoracentesis.
Prior ultrasound-guided biopsy experience.

Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric ICU and Transitional Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The UCSF team consists of highly experienced physicians, surgeons, APPs, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and many others that provide quality care for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. The APP will be responsible for coordinating the care of patients in the hospital setting Responsibilities Work with physicians/surgeons/APP colleagues and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice, including but not limited to, taking histories, performing physical examinations, peri-operative planning/coordinating with outside providers and primary care providers (PCPs) as applicable, responding to changes in patient status, providing prescriptions/evaluations/referrals, diagnostic tests/treatments as permitted under core privileges and standardized procedures. Evaluate for and order home health services, durable medical equipment (DME), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) certifications, refer for consultations, physical therapy, order radiographic imaging or diagnostic tests, and specialized treatments (e.g. chemotherapy with the approved privilege). Provide patient and family education, arrange follow-up appointments, and engage in any approved privileges after the APP has demonstrated competency through proctoring and FPPE process. OMAG will identify independent practice for approved privileges on the ECHO website and procedural activity will be entered by the provider and monitored via the elog system. To evaluate, assess and create a documented plan of treatment per patient’s presenting HPI or established plan of care as defined by the UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws. To answer clinically relevant patient medical advice calls or during bedside communications or in coordination with health care professionals, patients, and their families as necessary. To independently, or in a shared visit model, evaluate routine, acute, critical, new patients, or specialty consultations when needed or required and discuss with attending and staff as appropriate and document in the EHR. Any required documentation workflow must be adhered to Be able to interpret and act upon ordered tests, procedures, and radiographic studies. To assist in formulating and implementing protocols to improve efficiency in the clinical specialty Effectively communicate with family or patients in person, via telephone and/or via other electronic modalities in a timely manner. Ensure in their absence, appropriate clinical coverage has been arranged for patient management and communication as appropriate. Our 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.
