The Infection Control Coordinator (IC) coordinate IC activities for the facility to minimize patients, families and employees risk of exposure. The nurse provides assessment, surveillance, data collection, reporting, and education to employees, patients, and families according to Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures, CDC and PI standards. Coordinates and communicates activities under the supervision of the IC Officer and DON.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for development and implementation of Annual Infection Control Plan and Annual Infection Control Program Evaluation based on recommendations from and approval of Infection Control Committee.
  2. Reviews, assesses and investigates lab data relative to infection rates, sources, and trends associated with specific objectives outlined in the Infection Control Plan.
  3. Performs environmental inspections for adherence to infection control standards of practice.
  4. Works with all Department Managers to devise more efficient, reliable and cost effective ways to ensure the integrity of infection control activities and safety of the patients and staff.
  5. Formulates plans for corrections related to deficient infection control practices.
  6. Responsible for the agenda, minutes, and infection control reports at the Infection Control Committee meetings.
  7. Serves as liaison for the Infection Control Committee with hospital committees/departments.
  8. Serves as liaison for the public health department in the reporting and follow-up of “Reportable Communicable Disease”.
  9. Assists in the planning and presentation of orientation and in-service training programs for hospital staff and physicians.
  10. Works collaboratively with Employee Health on preventive actions, screening and monitoring of staff exposures to infectious diseases. 
  11. Works collaboratively with plant operations to ensure patient and staff safety during construction projects by minimizing potential exposure. 
  12. Works collaboratively with the certified Infection Control Preventionist to control and prevent infections.
  13. Performs other related duties as required.

Identifies abnormal values based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical provider. - Participates in clinic flow, including but not limited to assisting with patient arrival to the clinic, assisting in and performing patient procedures, scheduling new and follow-up patient appointments, facilitating a smooth patient exit from clinic. - Prepares patients for examination, treatment and/or procedures. - Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and reports in accordance with policy. - Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately in adherence to organizational policy and procedure. - Performs non-complex procedures, according to clinic policy and documented competency, such as simple dressing changes. - Provides for comfort needs of patients with consideration of age and special needs. - Handles clinic equipment, including preparation of equipment, testing of equipment for safety prior to use on patient, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment according to hospital policy. - Administers prescribed medication and/or vaccinations via ordered route in accordance with department policy. - Properly collects, prepares, and secures specimens for point of care clinic testing and/or transport when necessary.
