Overview

Registered Nurse, Trauma Acute Care

3x12 hour Night shifts with rotation to weekend

 

This is a 36-bed post-surgical unit that specializes traumatic injury and acute care surgical patients. You will see patients in varying stages of pre and post-surgical care as well as medical co-morbidities.

 

The majority of our focus is our trauma population, so we have a great emphasis on teamwork, open communication and the ability to work in a fast pace environment. Our unit is a great place to work because we pride ourselves on teamwork and a nurturing, friendly environment. We have implemented unit initiatives to improve safety, reliability and team-based patient care

Responsibilities

 

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in patient status, taking action to modify the plan of care or to elevate to the care team as necessary.
  • Practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold their autonomy in decision-making, ensure informed consent and assist patients in families in expressing self-determination.
  • Actively seeks feedback and acts to improve performance.
  • Engages in the governance of practice.
  • Manages interpersonal relationships for self and with others.
  • Mentors colleagues for the advancement of nursing practice and the profession.
  • Assumes authority and accountability for the nursing care of patients while appropriately delegating elements of care to others members of the care delivery team in accordance with laws, regulations and policies and procedures.

  • Qualifications

    • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required upon hire.

    Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department

    Overview Integrate emergency care for individual patients and implement nursing standards in the processes of care. Responsibilities Utilizes the nursing process in caring for all patients, to include: assessing symptoms, planning interventions, implementing treatment plans, evaluating responses to interventions, and revising plan based on overall effectiveness.     Nurse Manager -Family Medicine Newport Health Center

    Overview At the direction of the Director of Clinical Services, and in collaboration with Ambulatory Leadership, provides guidance and leadership for the clinical practice of the staff in the ambulatory settings at Newport Health Center (NHC). Accountable for the quality of nursing care service, in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and the NH Board of Nursing rules for delegated nursing tasks. Collaborates with Medical Director, providers and Practice Leadership to assure development and ongoing competence of the clinical support staff. Works closely with the NLH Primary Care Operations team to build consistent clinical processes across locations. Collaborates with the CNO to assure that system nursing practice goals and expectations are met. Responsibilities Clinical Operations Directly responsible for operational and performance management of RN/LPN, CMA, and other clinical staff in the NLH Medical Group Practice (direct reports). Manages Clinical Schedule, Time Away, and Payroll for Direct Reports, and collaborates with Practice Leadership to provide consistent appropriate clinical coverage to NLMG Providers. Develops and implements program for the onboarding of new clinical staff. Provides leadership in emergent situations and in those that require activation of the Emergency Activation Plan. Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of emergency preparedness in order to function as a resource to staff. Maintains clinical skills in order to provide direct care as needed. Provides clinical consultation and assistance upon request to other patient care areas at NLH and NHC Develops, in collaboration with the Practice Leadership, CNO and nurse leaders, programs and strategies to assure ongoing competency of RN clinical staff.     Charge Nurse - Emergency Department

    Overview The ED Lead/Triage Nurse is a vital leadership and clinical role responsible for overseeing shift operations in the Emergency Department, ensuring efficient patient flow, safe care delivery, and effective team coordination. This role also involves assessing and prioritizing patients upon arrival through systematic triage, initiating appropriate care pathways, and facilitating communication between healthcare teams. Responsibilities Lead Nurse Responsibilities: Leadership & Oversight Serve as the clinical leader and primary resource for nursing staff during assigned shifts. Coordinate staffing assignments based on patient acuity and unit needs. Manage shift operations, including delegation of tasks and monitoring workflows. Support staff in escalating clinical concerns to providers or leadership as needed. Patient Flow & Throughput Oversee the movement of patients through the ED, from arrival to disposition (admission, transfer, or discharge). Collaborate with bed management, inpatient units, and ancillary departments to optimize patient flow. Address and mitigate bottlenecks or delays in real-time. Resource Management Ensure appropriate availability of supplies, equipment, and staffing resources. Initiate and lead code responses, disaster preparedness actions, and emergency protocols. Communication & Team Support Act as a liaison between ED staff, physicians, other departments, and hospital leadership. Facilitate shift handoff and ensure continuity of care through effective communication. Provide coaching, mentorship, and conflict resolution as needed. Provide coverage for breaks to ensure downtime for our staff. Triage Nurse Responsibilities: Initial Patient Assessment Perform comprehensive triage assessments using standardized triage protocols (e.g., ESI—Emergency Severity Index). Determine the priority level for care based on patient acuity and resource needs. Clinical Decision-Making Identify high-risk patients and initiate life-saving interventions per standing orders or protocols. Communicate critical findings promptly to the care team. Documentation & Data Entry Accurately document triage assessments, vital signs, chief complaints, and other pertinent clinical information in the EHR. Patient Experience & Safety Provide clear instructions and explanations to patients and families regarding wait times, processes, and care expectations. Ensure infection control and safety measures are adhered to in the waiting area and triage spaces. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program (ADN or BSN preferred). Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license. Certifications: BLS and ACLS upon hire. PALS and AVADE within 6 months of hire. TNCC and NRP within 1 year of hire. ENPC is supported by leadership and optional. Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years Emergency Department nursing experience. Prior leadership or triage experience preferred. Skills: Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication, leadership, and team coordination abilities. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
