Scrub Tech - Surgical Services - Full Time

Certified Surgical Technician

​Assists with basic nursing care and preparation of surgical patients of all ages under the direct supervision of the staff nurse assigned. Assists in identifying patient needs based on age specific data. Selects appropriate instruments and supplies and sets up tables as required for specific operations. Prepares and maintains the sterile field for all surgical procedures. Prepares and passes instruments, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count. Functions as a member of the sterile team. Performs other duties as assigned.

Generally Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm

1. Provides team support services and demonstrates technical functions in a cost-effective, skillful manner that results in team, physician and patient satisfaction.
2.    Completes and maintains all yearly competency monitors and mandatory training within defined time frame (i.e., safety, annua in-services, corporate compliance, confidentiality, HIPAA).
3.    Consistently attends unit meetings.
4.    Demonstrates an ability to remain calm and productive in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
5.    Compliant with patient confidentiality standards.
6.    Successful completion of Nursing Services and in-service requirements.

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Certification as a CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or equivalent education/experience

  • Ability to successfully complete Basic Life Support Certification

  • Consistently works as a team a member and communicates effectively

Responsibilities The Surgical Technician Lead is responsible for providing safe and direct surgical scrub on all types of minor and major surgical procedures dependent on individual competence within the ASC to identified age groups. In collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary care team, the surgical technologist competently performs job responsibilities in accordance with all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and facility’s policies & procedures. Demonstrates respect for co-workers & develops positive working relationships with other departments. Communicates with courtesy when interacting with patients, physicians, hospital staff, vendors and the public – in person, on the telephone, or by email. Coordinates and performs activities routinely as appropriate with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director and the Quality Committee(s). Performs the role of surgical scrub by anticipating the needs of the surgeon and keeping the circulating nurse informed of any needs throughout a procedure. Ensures all supplies, equipment and medications are assembled prior to the start of the procedure. Responsible for ensuring all new equipment requests are appropriately analyzed based on utilization and data from the provider. Understands the high standards and cost savings and containment of the ASC. Promotes safe environment. POSITION SUMMARY: To assist surgeons and registered nurses by performing routine, technical, and related duties during surgical operations. To provide safe and competent care to all patients in a variety of age groups and function effectively with a variety of patient physical and emotional disabilities. To be responsible for the daily cleaning and processing of equipment, providing for the between case turnover by removing, cleaning, and decontamination of equipment used by the team, and ensuring clean equipment for each procedure.
