
Assistant Chief CRNA - UH CRNA-Nurse Anesthesia - Children's and Women's Hospital

Responsibilities
- The Assistant Chief will be a support and facilitator for the Chief CRNA. This includes accomplishing departmental goals set by the Chief CRNA and Director of Anesthesia and ensuring Rules/Policies/Procedures for the department are being supported.
- Will be responsible helping facilitate the day-to-day activities of the anesthesia department in collaboration with the Chief CRNA's direction.
- Collaborates with the staff CRNAs to develop and implement the myStaff scheduling and staffing plan, with final approval via Chief CRNA. The Assistant Chief CRNA will communicate operational needs to the Chief CRNA and the Medical Director of Anesthesia to ensure proper staffing and help fulfill staffing requirements.
- Assists with clinical education and career development of staff.
- Aids with the day-to-day management of the Anesthesia Techs and oversees their scheduling.
- Assists with the recruitment process, gathering information. Employment interviews will only be conducted via the Chief CRNA.
- Supports all personnel as valuable assets to the institution; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills; coaches and mentors staff and students. Learns new skills and teaches others.
- Helps/Assist with a budget that meets departmental needs within the framework of the Chief CRNAs needs
- Enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values
- Facilitates staff participation in in-services, departmental meetings, and educational activities to learn new skills and for continued development.
- Will have very open and transparent communication with the Chief CRNA. The Assistant Chief will work as a team with the Chief CRNA to implement changes to the department.
- Collaborates with the Chief CRNA to facilitate communication with Anesthesia staff.
- Maintains records of attendance at weekly meetings.
- Will work with the Chief CRNA to obtain Class A credits for educational meetings.
- Assist with developing and implementing updates to policies and procedures in collaboration with the Chief CRNA according to JACHO and Hospital standards.
- Supports the Mission of USA UH/CW Hospitals translating and incorporating institutional mission, vision, and values to staff and others. Provide an environment that supports medical, nursing, and allied health and professionally performs all duties.
- Is a Role model for all staff.
- Assist with assuring personnel are competent to carry out their essential duties and that competency skills are completed annually.
- Utilizes ICARE methodology [Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence).
- Maintaining standards of practice consistent with current research findings adhering to current infection control, national patient safety goals, and accreditation standards, facilitated cooperative and collaborative relationships among disciplinary/departments to ensure effective delivery of services to support quality patient care.
- Encourages and participates in planning and program development to facilitate the effective delivery of services that support quality patient care.
- Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and health care team in person, via telephone, and responds to overhead pages and beepers in a timely manner.
- Keeps and follows through on promises and commitments. Is dependable, consistent, and predictable.
- Helps to maintain staff compliance with performance expectations. The Assistant Chief CRNA will work with the Chief CRNA if disciplinary actions are needed.
- Other can be be assigned via the Chief CRNA and will be explained in direct and transparent communication with the Chief CRNA and Assistant Chief CRNA in agreement.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, completion of an accredited course in anesthesia training, and 1 year of experience as a certified nurse anesthetist Required
- CRNA - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - Licensure with the state of Alabama as a Registered Nurse and certification with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Upon Hire Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
