Registered Nurse (RN) Job Summary:

As the Nurse Educator (RN), you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs such as orientation and other supportive educational offerings for promotion of better patient care. Supports special projects as assigned.

Registered Nurse (RN) Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists, plans, implements and evaluates programs for orientation, in-service, education, continuing education and competence assessment. Uses the education process and incorporates adult learning principles in teaching staff.
  • Uses the consultation process to facilitate and enhance the achievement of individual, departmental and organizational goals.
  • Engages in systematic inquiry and integrates research results and current literature into educational activities. Develops, maintains, and enhances educational and clinical expertise through orientation, self-evaluation and ongoing professional development.


Registered Nurse (RN) Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an approved college or university required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut.
  • Progressive clinical experience of 5 years or more required.
  • Demonstrated competency in the teaching/learning process preferred.
  • If specialty-focused educator, 3 years' experience in that area requested.

  • Functions independently as a nursing practitioner in accordance with professional standards of practice.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maintains evidence of ongoing professional growth and continuing education.
  • Participates in the development and revision of practice guidelines and policies.
  • Collaborates with medical staff and appropriate departments to establish educational goals.
  • Assists in developing and implementing educational plans for nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Contributes to the creation and implementation of educational materials for patients and families.
  • Supports the development and delivery of educational opportunities for nursing staff.
  • Reviews, monitors, and maintains performance improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates activities by determining appropriate timing, sequencing, and execution of tasks based on data analysis; reports on outcomes as needed.
  • Communicates effectively to convey and exchange information across disciplines.
  • Utilizes appropriate tools, equipment, and materials, exercising sound judgment in selection and use.
  • Applies logical and scientific reasoning to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interprets complex technical instructions presented in written, diagrammatic, or abstract formats.
  • Applies mathematical concepts including algebraic equations and inequalities, limits and continuity, probability, statistical inference, fractions, percentages, and measurement principles.
  • Reads and interprets professional journals, manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops written materials such as lectures, programs, and educational content.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills, including knowledge of speaking techniques, voice and diction, phonetics, and group discussion facilitation.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Work is considered heavy. Position requires travel from operations center to local hospitals and patient residences with primary work being indoors in an alternative patient care environment.
