Position Summary The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for the safe administration of medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse while assisting with resident care and maintaining accurate documentation. Essential Responsibilities Administer medications accurately and safely according to physician orders and facility policies. Verify resident identity before medication administration and observe residents for medication effectiveness and potential adverse reactions. Accurately document medication administration and promptly report medication refusals, errors, or changes in resident condition. Review Medication Administration Records (MARs) to ensure completeness and accuracy. Assist with medication inventory, storage, and ordering while maintaining proper security and accountability for medications, including controlled substances. Communicate effectively with licensed nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff, residents, and family members regarding medication-related concerns. Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed and provide compassionate, resident-centered care. Maintain compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, and all federal, state, and facility regulations. Promote a clean, safe, and respectful environment for residents, visitors, and team members. Perform additional duties as assigned by nursing leadership. Qualifications Current North Carolina Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification required. Current North Carolina Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing preferred. Current CPR certification required. Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting is preferred. Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic health records preferred. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Provides direct resident care. Functions as a CNA when not assigned to administer medications. Develops and maintains courteous and professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QMA Certificate in good standing on file with the appropriate Department of Health and current CNA Certificate. One year experience in long-term care setting desired. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
