Duties Description

Infection Control Nurses at CNYPC are proficient in evidence-based nursing practices and function as liaisons between all departments and Infection Control Committees responsible for infection control and prevention services ensuring adherence to all infection control policies and procedures.

Additional duties include:

  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary treatment teams to mitigate potential for infectious disease.
  • Developing infection control risk assessment and plan along with educational programs for staff and patients.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the infection control program and revising as needed.
  • Leading annual flu prevention, treatment, and reporting.
  • Completing of documentation and preparing comprehensive reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside State service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program.

Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. One year of this experience must have been primarily working in the development, implementation, or administration of an infection control program.

  • A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. Possession of a current Certified in Infection Control (CIC) certificate issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology may substitute for the one year of infection control program experience.

Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Duties Description RNs hired to work within an IRA providing shift work will be assigned to various tasks described below. The RN will be expected to act within their scope of Practice. It is the responsibility of the RN to seek clarification report to the Treatment Team Leader (TTL), RN Supervisor (RNS1), Administrator on Duty (AOD), or Physician on Call (POC) if there is a lack of understanding of their role/responsibilities during their shift. Assists Site Assigned RN, direct care staff, clinicians and providers in identification of individuals’ needs and participates in the development of plans to address goals. Communicates concerns, findings, follow up with Site Assigned RN. Administers medications and treatments to individuals as prescribed. Obtains and records individuals’ vital signs using standard instruments and procedures and acts accordingly. Initiates and directs appropriate monitoring checklist based on symptoms or circumstance (resp, post hospitalization, neuro checklist) Assess, monitor, and records individuals’ symptoms and conditions to obtain and report information for diagnosis and treatment; identifies responses to medication or changes in health status: obligated to report to providers or EMS as warranted. Prepares individual for and/or assists with examinations and appointments. Maintains health record of individuals’ condition and/or administered treatments. Educates and counsels families of individuals and direct care staff regarding individuals’ health, medications, treatment goals and procedures. Generate PONS and train if warranted during their shift. Monitors medication and supply inventories and completes requisition forms to ensure adequate supplies. May observe and educate the activities of direct care staff, including the administration of medication, to ensure compliance with regulations such as medication certifications, competencies of direct care staff. Attends to individuals’ personal needs, including activities of daily living and hygiene tasks, such as bathing, dressing, feeding and grooming. May perform housekeeping tasks, such as changing linens, and assist other staff in cleaning to ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for individuals. Engages with individuals routinely, communicates to families, listens to concerns, and encourages them to participate in treatment and rehabilitation activities. Transcribes medications/treatments on EMAR and paper MAR and monitors for completion and accuracy. Provides approval to start a new medication/treatment. Duties Description The RN 1 serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team performing various nursing duties, including coordinating and monitoring all aspects of medical care for residents. Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To Provide direct nursing care to residents, including comprehensive nursing assessments, administering medications, implementing physician’s treatment orders, transcribing orders, and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis or culture.
