What you'll do

The Medical Assistant II is a healthcare professional who supports clinicians and other medical staff by performing clinical duties during the patient encounter. Responsibilities include greeting patients, taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with medical procedures, collecting laboratory specimens, and conducting administrative tasks as assigned. The Medical Assistant II maintains a clean, safe clinical environment and ensures efficient unit operations while providing compassionate, high-quality patient care. Takes a lead in the training of new incoming staff members.

 

  • Receives and greets every patient in person or via telephone a courteous and friendly manner using a welcoming positive tone, words and actions.
  • Displays ownership of the entire patient experience, including but not limited to, rooming of patient, collection of vitals, complete and accurate phone messages, chart preparation, medication refills and the abstracting of external records
  • Raises up emergent situations or expressed patient problems directly to RN, Supervising Nurse or Practitioner for assistance.
  • Enters charges for supplies and clinical testing
  • Assists with routing forms to appropriate Bassett department such as disability or workers compensation paperwork as applicable
  • Distributes AVS per patients communication preference
  • Performs all Point of Care testing as pertinent to specialty area
  • Runs controls on point of care testing equipment and ensures logbooks are updated appropriately
  • Performs clinical testing per departmental protocol
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms on a daily basis or according to need
  • Checks medications and supplies for outdates according to standards set forth by clinical area
  • Monitors supply levels to improve inventory control
  • Meets yearly competency requirements as set forth by departmental leadership
  • Float to other locations or departments as requested
  • Opens and/or closes clinic per departmental guidelines
  • Participates monthly or quarterly environmental rounds by following standards set forth by clinical areas as assigned
  • Attends required in-services as requested by supervisor
  • Exhibits or recognizes areas of professional growth (ie, computer training, refresher training, EAP, Epic Superuser, etc.)
  • Attends staff meetings, reviewing minutes of any meeting missed
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of Bassett policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance
  • Take a lead in service recovery and act as a service liaison in the moment
  • Acts as a trainer for incoming new staff or provides orientation as requested by supervisors for new employees
  • Ensures all orders have been pended in electronic medication record if necessary
  • Establishes and maintains departmental record keeping
  • Performs audits using Tracers with AMP as assigned by leadership
  • Acts as a lead for checking inventory and ordering clinical supplies as applicable
  • Serves as a clinical competency validator as applicable
  • Conducts annual in services as requested by supervisor
  • Serves in an organizational or unit based committee
  • Required to complete 6 CE’s per year
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed

 


What we need from you

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, required
  • Customer service experience, preferred

License/Certification:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant, preferred
  • BLS certification 6 months from date of hire, required

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects

Bonus Amount:

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Documents patient intake including vital statistics, verification of allergies, past history, updated medication list, and review of system findings as stated by patient or delegate. Performs assigned clinical procedures and treatments as ordered and within the appropriate function of the physician-validated skillset of the CMA with appropriate, timely documentation. Assists in patient education as needed. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of care provided to patients by authenticating all entries in the medical records and maintains office records and logs as directed by the supervisor. Collect specimens and appropriately fills out forms in accordance with department/unit standards. Accurately and thoroughly scribes in real time: patient medical history and physical exam, procedures and treatments, patient education and instructions, test results, and physician diagnoses as directed, adhering to documentation requirements and scribing policies. Performs front office duties as needed, such as receiving and directing phone calls to the appropriate person, performing patient-related scheduling activities for the providers, and handling payments on accounts and medical co-pays. Demonstrates appropriate use of AIDET when registering patients. Enters new patient data and/or verifies patient records are up-to-date, confirms the completeness of the electronic health record (EHR), makes changes as necessary, and completes an accurate registration. Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits on each patient. Collects out-of-pocket liabilities from patients upfront and applies and reconciles daily point-of-service cash reports. Refers patient accounts to financial counselors when further explanation/education is needed regarding out-of-pocket liabilities, payment plans, etc. Maintains compliance in RQI. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities, as necessary. Minimum Education/Experience Required: High School Degree or GED required. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program with an AAMA, RMA, or NHA certification or approved equivalent required. Previous healthcare experience preferred. BLS Certification required.
