Arrowhead Behavioral Health is a 48-bed psychiatric hospital located in Maumee, Ohio. We serve adult patients 18 years of age and older that need mental health and chemical dependency services.  Inpatient offerings include treatment for drug and alcohol withdrawal management and stabilization as well as mental health crisis management. Our outpatient services extend the continuum of care to include partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs which allow patients to develop and utilize proper coping mechanisms to help establish a foundation for life. Additionally, we offer a Relapse Prevention Program along with a Medication Administration Program to support patients in maintaining lifelong sobriety.

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) directs, supervises and coordinates Nursing Department at Arrowhead Behavioral Health Hospital. The ADON provides leadership that results in the efficient, productive, and cost effective patient care. The ADON ensures that the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing policies and procedures are in compliance with all TJC, federal, state and local regulations. The ADON instructs and evaluates personnel of an organized hospital patient/resident care unit in a manner reflective of the philosophy of Arrowhead Behaviroal Health Hospital.  The ADON assists the Director of Nursing (DON)in maintaining a productive, professional relationship with the medical staff, management team and all other departments. The ADON performs other duties as assigned. The ADON reports to the DON.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A degree in Nursing from an accredited school is required. A Bachelor’s Degree is required. 

 

Licensure: Registered Nurse with current Ohio license.

 

Experience: Two years of nursing experience in a psychiatric inpatient setting or 5 years experience in other nursing clinical setting.  Previous experience in nursing supervision/administration is required. The ability to organize tasks related to the accomplishment of hospital goals and objectives.  Ability to work in a professional manner with physicians, mental health professional, referral sources, and support staff.

 

Additional Requirements:  Ability to work with the population as demonstrated through educational accomplishment or work experience. A working knowledge of TJC, ODMH, and patient rights standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities relating to direct patient care. Successful completion of CPR Certification and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).  May be required to flexible hours.

 

Competence: The individual demonstrates competence by:

  1. Ability to prioritize, plan, direct, and manage the day-to-day activities of the nursing department.
  2. Ability to identify and solve work related problems of the nursing staff.
  3. Ability to identify, investigate, and take corrective action on patient care issues
  4. Knowledge of the nursing CQI programs.
  5. A working knowledge and understanding of TJC and ODMH standards relating to direct patient care.
  6. Ability to maintain professionalism and provide leadership in dealing with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, other department staff members and the nursing staff directly supervised.
  7. A working knowledge of hospital, corporate, and personnel policies and procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborates with the DON in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, standards and programs of nursing care, which are reflective of utilization of available resources and compliant with TJC and ODMH standards.
  2. Conducts or assists as directed by the DON with staff development programs on nursing care issues and focusing on performance improvement goals and objectives.
  3. Directs and consults with department supervision and staff on day-to-day nursing department operational issues and concerns. Communicates information to the DON
  4. Conducts or assists, as directed by the DON with infection control program and employee health program.
  5. Assigns tasks and duties to staff members to improve direct patient care services.
  6. Analyses staffing and ratio patterns to meet patient care needs.
  7. Routinely reviews job assignments and utilization of nursing staff.
  8. Assists in the selection, placement and retention of nursing personnel.
  9. Works closely with the DON in conducting job performance evaluations on staff. Counsels personnel on performance issues and takes disciplinary action if warranted.
  10. Participates in the orientation of employees and teaches training classes involving nursing care.
  11. Participates in the evaluation of the clinical competency of nursing personnel.
  12. Adheres to hospital, corporate, and personnel policies and procedures.
  13. Serves on various hospital committees as assigned.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by the DON.
