Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) play an essential role in healthcare settings by supporting licensed nursing staff and ensuring patients receive medications safely and on schedule. Their responsibilities contribute significantly to the overall quality of patient care and well-being.

Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Responsibilities:

  • Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications to patients in accordance with established protocols and under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN or LPN/LVN). Maintain accurate records of all medications given.

  • Patient Monitoring: Observe patients for changes in physical or mental condition. Promptly report any adverse reactions or side effects to appropriate medical personnel.

  • Accurate Documentation: Maintain thorough and accurate records of medication dosages and administration times. Adhere strictly to the “Five Rights” of medication administration: right patient, right medication, right dose, right time, and right route.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with nurses and other healthcare team members to support comprehensive patient care. Ensure medications are administered in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Physical Requirements: Perform physically demanding tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting or repositioning patients, and assisting with mobility or hygiene tasks.
