Allure of Zion is seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department and help us continue building a culture of quality care, accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence.

Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and management of nursing services within the skilled nursing facility.
The DON works closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, MDS team, interdisciplinary team, residents, families, and nursing staff to ensure high-quality care, regulatory compliance, appropriate staffing, and positive resident outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Regulatory Leadership
Provide overall leadership and direction for the nursing department.
Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with CMS, IDPH, federal, state, and local requirements.
Maintain ongoing survey readiness and participate in regulatory surveys and follow-up activities.
Monitor clinical systems and ensure policies and procedures are followed.
Identify areas of clinical risk and implement corrective action when needed.
Promote a culture of resident safety, dignity, and person-centered care.
Staffing & Nursing Operations
Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix across all shifts.
Oversee nursing schedules, assignments, and delegation of responsibilities.
Work collaboratively with the Administrator and staffing team to recruit and retain quality nursing staff.
Monitor attendance, performance, and accountability within the nursing department.
Provide leadership and support to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and nursing leadership.
Promote strong communication between shifts and departments.
Assist with reducing agency utilization and developing a strong, reliable facility-based nursing team.
Clinical Oversight & Quality
Monitor resident care and clinical outcomes.
Review nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Ensure safe medication administration, treatments, and clinical practices.
Oversee management of incidents, changes in condition, infections, wounds, falls, and other clinical concerns.
Monitor quality measures and develop strategies for improvement.
Lead and participate in QAPI initiatives.
Identify trends and implement sustainable solutions rather than simply addressing individual problems.
MDS, Care Planning & Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Partner with the MDS Coordinator and interdisciplinary team to ensure accurate and timely assessments.
Ensure resident care plans accurately reflect resident needs and are consistently implemented.
Promote resident and family participation in care planning.
Collaborate with therapy, dietary, social services, activities, and other department leaders.
Support positive clinical and quality outcomes throughout the resident's stay.
Staff Education & Development
Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and support to nursing staff.
Ensure required education and competencies are completed.
Lead or coordinate nursing in-services and ongoing staff education.
Develop future nursing leaders within the facility.
Promote professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and respectful communication.
Recognize strong performance while addressing performance concerns promptly and appropriately.
Survey Readiness
Maintain continuous survey readiness.
Monitor compliance with nursing-related regulations and facility policies.
Participate in mock surveys and quality audits.
Respond appropriately to survey findings and assist with developing and implementing plans of correction.
Ensure identified deficiencies are corrected and sustained.
Qualifications
Required
Current, active, and unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
Current CPR certification
Strong knowledge of skilled nursing and long-term care regulations
Knowledge of CMS and IDPH survey expectations
Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and hold staff accountable
Preferred
Previous Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing experience
Long-term care/skilled nursing experience
Experience with QAPI
Experience with regulatory surveys and survey recovery
Experience developing and mentoring nursing leadership teams
MDS/RAI knowledge and experience
