Job Summary:

Highlands Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a Director of Nursing DON to lead our nursing team in providing exceptional patient care. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our nursing department, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of excellence and compassion.

About the Role:

As a Director of Nursing DON, you will be responsible for:

Leading and managing a team of nurses and licensed professionals to deliver high-quality patient care
Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
Collaborating with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans
Monitoring and analyzing departmental performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions
Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards
Recruiting, hiring, and training nursing staff to meet patient care needs
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient care, treatments, and outcomes
Participating in budget development, cost containment, and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Current RN License and Active Certification as a Nursing Administrator (DON)
Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role
Strong clinical and interpersonal skills, with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Familiarity with electronic medical records and healthcare software systems

Other Related Functions • Contributes to the knowledge and skills of others, and continuously improves the quality of healthcare practice and organizational outcomes. • Participates in and may lead unit level and/or organizational level committees focused on nursing practice and performance improvement. • Participates in departmental and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance. • Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area. • Attends staff development in-services, department meetings, and/or nursing committee meetings. • Partners with the nursing leadership team to identify professional development needs. • Assumes responsibility for one’s own professional development and continuing education. • Actively participates in and attends the Nurse Residency Program as appropriate to role. Qualifications Education/Training. • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. • Authorized by the Florida Board of Nursing (BON) to practice as a graduate nurse and has received a “Graduate Nurse” letter. • Authorized to take the NCLEX by the examination vendor. • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department. Licensure/Certification • Must obtain Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license within three (3) months of placement in this job. • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP is required for the Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU). Experience None.
