Responsibilities MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / SPECIFIC JOB COMPETENCIES This is not an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements. Performs medical services in both clinic and hospital settings within the scope of education, training, and experience including: conducting patient visits per accepted practice standards, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations, ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, developing and implementing treatment plans in accordance with clinical practice guidelines and protocols, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, and assessing and managing patient follow-up care. This role involves either working primarily in a clinic setting with regular hospital rounds, or working exclusively in a hospital environment, depending on organizational needs and job assignment. (40%) Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Duties include consultations, monitoring and continuity of care between clinic visits through pre- and post-treatment surveillance and post-op visits in CMG clinic(s) and/or hospital. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation. Seeks and obtains input from physicians regarding questions and issues pertaining to the treatment and/or care of patients as needed. Works in collaboration with physicians and the care treatment team in the establishment and, management of Transitional Care and Chronic Care Management. Manages own sub-clinic to provide patient assessment, education and clinical recommendations within scope of practice. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Conducts routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site. Adheres to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, and utilizing available in-house resources for treatment. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, while also reporting any concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals. Provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested. Additional Details This role will be a true PRN/As needed role, with coverage being needed periodically to cover time off for our full time providers. Candidates should be comfortable with substance withdrawal management, partnering with psych NP's and behavioral health staff, infectious disease management, MAT and standardized protocols (Title 15/NCCHC/ACA). In addition, candidates should feel comfortable doing suturing, incision and draining (abscesses are extremely common), basic wound care and debridement, splinting/minor fracture management, EKG interpretation, and emergency response (codes and overdoses) Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
