Position Summary
The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) provides compassionate, hands-on care to residents while supporting their comfort, safety, dignity, and overall well-being. The STNA works as part of the nursing team and follows the direction of licensed nursing staff and facility policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral care.
- Assist residents with meals, feeding, hydration, and maintaining proper nutrition.
- Safely transfer, reposition, and ambulate residents according to their care plans.
- Answer call lights promptly and respond appropriately to resident needs.
- Obtain and record vital signs and other assigned measurements.
- Observe residents for changes in condition, behavior, skin integrity, appetite, mobility, or overall well-being and promptly report concerns to the nurse.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable resident environment.
- Assist with incontinence care and maintain appropriate hygiene and infection-control practices.
- Provide respectful and compassionate care while protecting resident privacy and dignity.
- Assist residents with personal belongings and encourage independence whenever possible.
- Participate in resident activities and promote positive social interaction.
- Complete required documentation accurately and timely.
- Follow all facility policies, procedures, safety standards, and infection-prevention practices.
- Work cooperatively with nurses, STNAs, residents, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by nursing leadership.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current and valid Ohio STNA certification.
- Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting is preferred but not required.
- Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must be able to provide compassionate care to residents with varying physical and cognitive needs.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to assist with lifting, transferring, repositioning, and ambulating residents.
- Ability to push or pull equipment and supplies as required.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed to perform resident-care duties.
- Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Schedule
Shift: Days or Nights
Status: Full-Time, Part-Time, or PRN
